Our Personal Residence

After returning to the United States from a tour in Korea, we were living in military quarters. This soon got old as you always had someone telling you when to cut the grass, or clean up the neighborhoods, etc. We moved out of quarters in 1984. In January to March of 1985 I was on an exercise in Germany. While I was gone the temperature went below zero in February and stayed below zero for a period of 30 days. The apartment heater broke and my wife and 2 children were without heat. Ice 2-3 inches thick would form on the inside of the windows as it was so cold. They were trying to use the oven as a heater and my youngest daughter grabbed the heating element with some plastic gloves on. It melted the plastic into her hand and had to have physical therapy to regain the use of the hand. Upon my return from the military exercise in Germany, we gave notice we were moving and started looking for a house.

In June 1985, we found our dream home for us to live in. It was a 4-level with about 2400 square feet. Moving from a 2-bedroom apartment of about 700 square feet to this large home felt like we were moving into a mansion. It did not take long to fill it up with furniture and doodads. This was to be our home until 1998.
