Another Far from Laid-Back Week

Normal 1439047910 2015 08 06 18

Another busy week!

Some work stuff, some rental stuff, some non-profit stuff.

In the rentals, our second vacancy that we handed over to our property manager is rented, in six days or less. We know that by driving by the property, waiting for communication from the property manager. We thought another tenant was giving notice for the end of August, but turns out she had a short lived financial setback and thinks she can afford to stay, so we’ll monitor that situation.

With non-profit stuff, this week was national Night Out. I was tied up with work and couldn’t help in the park on the actual day, bummer. Our block party for the block our church has adopted was this week though. We had a concert and a great Italian dinner, but the residents elected to stay on their porches or inside rather than participating. After four years, so a real bummer. Time to rethink the project, either adopting a more receptive block or acknowledging that the program may not be working here.

This isn’t very timely, but I’ve also been involved with some BiggerPockets members, exploring how aggressive (or not) Bruce and I are in real estate. We have definitely gotten out and done something. But we definitely aren’t out there expanding fast. This forum thread was interesting to me.  Bruce and I also met a BP investor from Seattle for coffee in Kelso. He kept asking us why we weren’t… buying more, 1031 exchanging, turnkeying, yadda yadda. He even asked what payoff I was getting from welcoming new members and posting on the forums. As if every single action and day has to directly result in a gain? Feel like we’ve struck a good middle ground, of not sitting on the sidelines or killing ourselves.
