Step By Step Guide – Getting A Good Real Estate Investor Website

Lots of people get quite intimidated when looking to get their first website.  It sounds almost incomprehensible that they can create a website that meets their needs.   They also think it is too expensive to get a good website for their real estate investing business.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  You just need a few hours to have a fully functional real estate investor website running your real estate investing business.  And you end up with a website that is complete with all the functionality and features necessary to run a successful real estate investing business.

In this article, I will walk you through what to do to get a website for your real estate investing business.

1)    Select a good domain name
The first thing you must think about is which domain name you are going to use.    People will know your website through your domain name, such as mybusinessname.com.    The gateway to your website is your domain name.
Think of a phone number that people use to reach you - a domain name is similar.

   A good domain name is

i)     Easy to remember.

ii)    Preferably short - this also makes it easy to remember.   Sometimes it might not be possible to meet this need.

iii)    Related to your business -  preferably, people should be able to tell what you do when they see your domain name.

iv)    Contains keywords that are relevant to your business -  this is important not only to people but also with search engine optimization.

Domains with relevant keywords are ranked higher than those without keywords.
While this might not always be possible, your website is likely to rank better in the search engines if the domain name contains relevant keywords.

v)    Contains your geographical region -   This gives you an edge with the search engines even though it might not always be possible.   This will give you a definite edge if you target a local market.

Domain names such as jupiterhomebuyers.com  or metrorealestategroup.com for instance seem to target a geographical location.  If at all this is possible for your business, it can go a  long way in improving your search engine rankings.

Should I register more than one domain?

This is mostly determined by your marketing strategy.  Most people will have only one domain name for their business.

However, you may find the need to register new domains for targeted marketing.   For instance, you might need a second domain that points to a squeeze page.

You could point "mylocalforeclosures.com" to a landing page targeting local foreclosures.

Where should you register your domain?

Most people prefer to do a one stop shop where they buy a website along with a domain name and hosting as one package.  This is the most convenient option.  So before you shop for your website, think of which domain name you are going to use. You may find it convenient to buy everything as a package.

If you are more internet savvy, and if you are also likely to have many domains, I highly recommend you have one central place where you register your domains, such Godaddy.  This way, you can manage all your domains in one central place no matter where your websites are hosted.   Your websites can be hosted in different places, but you manage all your domains in the same place.

Remember your domain registrar does not have to host your website. You simply need to point the domains to your hosting accounts by changing "name servers" with the ones provided by your host.

Once you buy your real estate investor website, they should be able to walk you through how to point your domain name to your new website.

2)    Buy a good real estate investor website
When you type a domain name to your browser, what you see are the digital files commonly called a "website".
People usually think they have to build their website. This can be quite overwhelming and intimidating even if you are computer savvy.

Taking this option means weeks and weeks of work, designs, content, and so on. You could end up spending a lot of money, and if you place value to the time you spend, this option can get quite costly.

And the end result could be disappointing because it might not look as professional as you would have wanted.  It can take months of intense work and consultations with your web developer and thousands of dollars needed to build your website from scratch.

Do you really own your website?
A lot of real estate investing websites out there cannot run outside their vendor's server, meaning you actually have a  "membership" that acts as your website.  This means, you must be stuck with them for hosting your website.

If you have such a website, you will usually have to pay a monthly fee.  You are likely to lose your website and probably your business if you stop paying this fee.

This also means the existence of your business fully depends on the existence of your real estate website vendor.

If their business goes down, then your business also goes down with them.

Get a website that is truly yours for life
Interactive real estate investor websites, recommended at the end of this article, come loaded with content, designs, autoresponders, forms, and everything you need.

With these websites, even if your website vendor ceases to exist, you can still exist independently.

Even if their business goes down, you will still continue to operate normally with an adaptable website that can be easily configured to suit any real estate investing needs, even when your business needs change in future.

You can have your website fully customized and ready for business within one hour after you order it.

3)    Get a good hosting account
Hosting is the physical location where your website sits - the server, or hosting account where your digital files are located.

Your website can also be hosted by most website vendors.  Sometimes it is possible to host the website with your current host.

Only order a hosting account if the vendor for your real estate investor website approves it.  Server limitations may prevent some  hosting accounts from running interactive websites.

Your website vendor should offer hosting or recommend a good host.

4)    Get your website installed
The last step of course is to get your website online, installed and running in your hosting account.

Your website vendor should be able to get this step complete for you, or the website should come with installation instructions.

Of course the expectation is that your website should be up and running on the internet when you receive it.

Obviously a website needs to make your real estate investing business easier to run.

5) Configure your website to meet your real estate investing business needs
Once your real estate investor website is up and running, the next step is to make sure it serves your business needs in real estate investing.

Your website must be able to adapt to suit your real estate investing business model, whether you buy or sell houses, rent them, wholesale houses, commercial real estate investing, or any other business model you adopt.
