I've got an itch

A year ago I had this itch - the desire to learn about real-estate investing. I've watched my friends buy property, rent to others to help pay down a mortgage, or flip and profit. There's always been a strong admiration for their hustle. I've constantly thought to myself, "Gosh, I need to learn about this. I'm 28 years old for goodness sake!" Of course, tons of obstacles were always standing in my way. But I've come to realize that my biggest barrier is me. To be honest, the topic of real-estate investing scares me half to death.  It's complex, risky, and there's a million things I don't know. Thoughts are constantly swirling around in my head: Where do I start? Who do I turn to? Is it the right time? Is this the right market? What if I don't succeed? I come from a family that values stability and security...and real-estate investing doesn't quite fit the mold.

However, a year has past and my itch still remains. Last weekend, I expressed to a close friend of mine my desire to learn about real-estate investing. Enter BiggerPockets. He mentioned that I should check out the BP podcast, since he had heard a lot of positive things about it. Ever since I started listening, I haven't been able to stop. It's become something I look forward to on my drives to-and-from work and always leaves me wanting  more. But more importantly, it's taken me off the sidelines to a course of action. As much as it is a leap of faith, taking me far beyond my comfort zone, I'm scared, but excited, and nervous, but anxious to take the plunge into this new journey. Time to embrace the itch!
