Estimates for HVAC and Water Heater

I had an HVAC system and a water heater stolen from one side of a duplex. Just curious...what kind of cost am I looking at to replace them. Since these are low-middle class rentals, I don't want top of the line...just average units. The unit is 2 story...about 1000 square feet.

How much would the purchase and installation of an electric furnace and a water heater be?

Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!

a 40 gallon gas hwh will run about $350 plus installation.

a 60k-80k btu furnace could cost around 600-1000 plus installation

if it has an outside unit too, that will be an additional expense.

Why not just call in the HVAC contractors you would use and get their estimate? The numbers already posted seem to be about right for the units themselves.

I have my quotes...just think they are too high...multiple inputs are are easily attained from experienced investors, rehab guys and/or HVAC contractors.

Forced air or radiators?

Natural gas, oil, propane, electric?

Efficiency?

Direct vent or venting through roof flue?

All of those factor into getting a price.

how nice is the area this duplex is in? is it worth the money to replace the entire HVAC system? I am working on a property where I had to redo the duct work for a permit we had pulled...it was cheaper to pull the gas pack out (you can sell it for good money probably) and install baseboard heating. For a lower income area where my units will rent for 450 a month, I decided it wasn't worth it for the costs of the HVAC system. You can find water heaters used for cheap on craigslist, but that is something that is best to buy new. Check scratch n dent at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. they will still come with a new warranty...they are really simple to install, but you can find a contractor to do it for cheap this time of year i'm sure...are you electric or gas???

Brad Z hit it right with the pricing. If you find the right person you can get the furnace installed for no more than $300. Water heater $30-$75 for the labor.

I have found units at the local Habitat for Humanity store. They are used but functional. Then just find a HVAC guy to do a side job.

We are having an HVAC system installed including venting for a 1350 sq. ft 4 bedroom place in San Diego for $2,000 by a licensed contractor.

Curtis, please elaborate. What exactly that $2,000 include? Is that a combo heat pump? A split unit? AC and furnace? Ducts and tubing?
It seems quite low to me, especially in California.

Low-end A/C condenser and gas furnace installed will run you about $1800 and up...

Average heat pump installed will run about $3500 and up...

40 gallon gas H2O heater at Home Depot will run about $450, plus another $40 for an expansion tank. Expect to pay about $50-100 for installation.

This is just my experience and location...yours may differ...

That quote sounds like a hose job. Drop me a line. I know a contractor by you. You should be looking at closer to $2,200.

It's for a bottom of the line central heat unit and ducting.
It is a very good price and I have used this guy on my last job to install a roof mount heat & a/c unit where we already had venting for $3000 when everyone else was $4,000 up.

I don't always go with the cheapest though, I go with what I feel is the best combo of competence, speed, my comfort level with them and price.
