This topic is started based on another by our BP founder Josh D. in regards to the BP store. It was asked what us members would like to see added in the BP store and one of my suggestions was to add pay per view webinars of REAL education.

Here is the thought: Many people/investors (both newbie and seasoned pros) find it easier and more effective to learn something by doing or experiencing. This holds true not only in RE investing, but anything we learn. One of the problems is, how do we DO and avoid the costly mistakes which are so prevalent when on our own?

One possible answer is to get to see, ask, and do right along side a real investor who is doing exactly what you want to do.

If BP could provide a pay per view webinar with a teacher(s) who can instruct in fine line detail, with a real transaction as a sample, answer questions, and possibly even provide photo and video clips of exactly how to do a specific deal using a specific strategy, would that be worth say a $59 affordable cost? And when I say teach, I mean what to say, how to say it, what to do, where to do it, how to do it with, etc etc etc etc.

If you think so, provide a vote for this post and make your replies. Perhaps if there is enough interest in something like this, it would be worth the effort of Josh and company to pursue it.
It is up to all of you BP members! Vote and post now and pass the word on about this thread to all your colleagues. Lets get a large sum of responses here!

I agree 100%, It is much easier to get a complete understanding of something when being instructed by an individual, then it is just reading from a book.

Depends. Many of us all already blogging on actual deals completed etc. This is only a one way communication. If the webinar was an open line where questions were asked, it might give more info, but in turn would be difficult to control, imo. Rich.
p.s. I didn't vote, because of the unknown method to be used.

Rehabber · Santa Clarita, California

Rich,

That is one of the beauties of the webinar, it allows for the "students" to ask questions and each attendee gets to hear all the questions and answers.
It would be a two way after the presentation/education portion rather than the one way we have on blogs.

For $59 that would be an inexpensive education.

Got my vote!

Real Estate Investor · Altus, Oklahoma

I'd pay $59 but only if there weren't any upsells I don't like webinars that are nothing but sales pitches.

Not saying anyone here would do that but I wanted to throw that out there anyway.

Inspector · Alsip, Illinois

I'm with James on that one. Well worth the price of admission. But the upsell webinars are always free anyway.

Rehabber · Chandler, Arizona

I agree with James. Pure education, no upsells. I'd pay $59.

I also agree with the no upsells (I think almost everyone else would too). A webinar is certainly a start in the right direction, but what about an actual mentoring program? I know several of the people on here already do something similar.

I'm not sure exactly how it would come to pass, but something along the lines of a student actually goes out with the mentor to talk to people, research deals, talks on the phone, etc. Something like on the job training. When I'm training someone at my job, I show them once or twice and then monitor them doing it a few times. A service like that would be invaluable.

Of course finding people willing to mentor and finding students that are not time wasters is another story...

Thats the advantage of the BP store webinars! No upsells. We real investors here on BP who are able and cpable of providing the information/eductaion via the webinar would be doing it for that only, nothing else to sell.
After all, BP IS anti-guru in case you didn't know!

Thanks for all your responses, I hope we have a ton more. We have had well over 100 views in less than a day, but less than 10 replies and even less votes, so for us to convince Josh to pursue this, we are going to have more reponses I believe.

If you like this idea, place your vote AND make a reply, don't just read and fly.

Webinar is great and possible archiving access of webinar and Q & A at a later date.
Of course this would involve a fee to bigger pockets to access the archived file for playback!

Great idea guys! There are too many "Get Rich Quick" upsellers out there that are using techniques that are out-dated or unrealistic, and I would love to see some of the seasoned investors giving some practical and realistic advice. The idea of going through a real-world example of someone's deals would be incredibly helpufl. Giving info on what that person was looking for, what made the deal worth it, how they ran the numbers, actual figures and then a look at the results would be incredibly helpful to anyone new or seasoned.

Great idea and gets my vote.

I like the idea of an informative webinar given by a proven investor with no upsell ... and how about those who've upgraded to a PRO account get in free or at some discount - might get a few of us (including myself) off the fence about upgrading.

Real Estate Investor · Gardner, Kansas

I love the idea Will. I would pay the $59. Diddo the no upsells.

Real Estate Investor · Lakeview, New York

Who needs webinars? I know EVERYTHING...uh...yes, that was a joke..

Ok ok, you get a vote

Great idea Ted, all Pro Account members get a discount as an added benefit of your Pro Membership. I am sure Josh could make that happen.

Thanks to all for the votes, we are up to 9, with even more responses now. A few more and Josh will have to take notice!

This is great in theory, but is generally part of what doesn't work with conventional REI courses/bootcamps/etc...and why the success rate is so small with the conventional stuff.

What I mean is, what is it exactly that you want to do? An investor that is willing to teach someone their investing style is teaching what works for them. It is not as simple as laying out the plan that works for you and then have someone else do it.

Part of the process of becoming successful as an investor or any kind of business owner is understanding what you want to do and be. Find what you do best and get better at what you don't do well or bring in someone with that skill. If you are the type that would rather bring in an expert that make cold calls or create a marketing campaign or manage property or fill vacancies or all of these or whatever else and the person you are learning from is a complete and total do-it-yourselfer, I don't care how motivated you are, the person teaching you won't make you a successful investor. The opposite is true, if you are learning from a person who delegates everything and you are a control freak that needs to do everything, your success may be limited in learning from that person or course.

I think a great first topic would be what do you want to do and why.
Spending money on investing education without having an idea of why you think you want more money or income and identifying what sacrifice you are willing to make to take action is a waste of time in my opinion.

Getting involved in real estate investing takes sacrifice, it may not be a big sacrifice, but it is a sacrifice nonetheless. Are you willing to make the sacrifice to try and make an investment with the expectation of a return? Are you willing to make the sacrifice to not be home every night with your family? Are you willing to make the sacrifice that you might not be able to go out with your friends, or that you will miss the latest xyz show on TV on tuesday nights?

Anyone that is not happy and is broke that gains some success, will be not happy when they get money. In my book happiness is more important than the money and because society tells us that money and happiness are related, we buy into it. The truth is there is no relationship between money and happiness, they are independent.

All this to say can really be explained in a nutshell "Focus on the What and the How will take care of itself."

Good Investing

Not rue at all, I disagree. The reason 95%+ fail at most bootcamps, seminars, etc. is because they are geared to take advantage of people. The gurus use tactics to motivate and excite the attendee into running to the back of the room to charge their credit card. They also have educational programs which are taught in generalities, in theries, and in practices and strategies which may not be applicable to the investor's area or market. They know right off the bat that most will do nothing, most will fail, most will just lose money, yet they continue to sell, and why, because they can. They have the opportunity to take advantage of people and so they do so.

What I mean is, what is it exactly that you want to do?
I agree with this which is one of the many things so great about the idea here. BP members can decide what exactly it is that they want to do and then pick that webinar to attend.

An investor that is willing to teach someone their investing style is teaching what works for them. It is not as simple as laying out the plan that works for you and then have someone else do it.
True in many cases, but here on BP, we/Josh will have control over the education and thus demand that the education is taught for and from the perspective and situation of a biginning investor and not a seasoned pro. Any investor with millions of dollars certainly has an edge over a newbie with no money and no resoruces. Therfore, the education MUST be taught from that standpoint to be effective for the attendees.
On the other hand, we could have webinars for seasoned pros geared to specific strategies that they would like to learn and these could be more advanced for those with advanced capabilities.

This I agree with 100%! That said, the ball is in the court of each attendee to apply what they learned and make the sacrafices necessary to succeed.
"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it"
Ultimately, each attendee is responsible for their own follow-through at that point.
If they don't, at least they only spent less than $100 rather than tens of thousands on guru crap.

Thank you for your contrarian opinions. They count just as much as the "I agree"
