Just like it says, are there any very young investors out here on bigger pockets?

One of the hardest things for me is finding someone in the same age group as I am (teenager, almost adult tho =]) who find passion in being an entrepreneur and/or investing in real estate.

If not, did anyone start out investing at a very young age? I would love to hear your stories. I can tell you it's been quite an interesting path to take starting at age 14.

Thanks Guys - Tiger

Started at 19 personally, but didn't become a landlord until I was 26. The best part about starting young is you can get yourself started in a system of buying money making things before getting caught up in the trappings of feeling the need to own money costing things.

Im 22 years old and started this past January and I am up to 3 SFH's. Its been a lot of work but it has been paying off so far!

Just turned 21 yesterday! I have been working and negotiating short sales for about 2 1/2 -3 years but I was doing it for others. About 9 months ago I decided to go out and start this on my own.

I bought my first duplex at 19, and I found it very hard to get people to take me seriously. I still get talked down to sometimes, as I still look like I'm in my late teens, but for the most part it's getting better.

Welcome to bigger pockets.

I started at 20. I was up to 8 units by 21. I have been buy every since and have not looked back.

If your 14 that's not almost an adult. I am 26 and I got started at 20. There is another investor out there named Ryan Dehler he started at 18. I think nothing to do with your age will hold you back except for speaking with homeowners and negotiating to buy their house. That will only be a concern if you plan to wholesale probably. You can easily take care of this by finding a partner or having your parents do this part or try to make offers and buy houses without meeting the homeowners. Some people can do this I don't recommend it though.

I started late- age 22. However, I was retired at 29... That is the age that should be the important to all of us. Good luck to all the youngins out there. A lot of you will succeed and some may very likely retire at an even earlier age. Good luck to all. Rich.

Handyman · OH

oh wow i'm glad to see young investor stories!

I became a home owner at 21, land lord at 23.

Now i'm 27 and I'm about to retire.

I am not 14, however, I began my own entrepreneurial ventures at 14. I am 17 now and beginning to move into the real estate world.

I agree with Rich. It's not about when you start, it's all about when you finish. Hopefully I can get everything sorted out before I turn 25.

It was a long time ago, but I was 18 when I bought my first property. For 15 years, I bought and sold bare land. My first rental was sort of an accident-- timber land came with a rentable house on it.

My son's first real estate was a high school graduation gift. 2.6 acres. He was 17 at the time. I paid 7K for it; he sold it for 225K. But he held it for awhile.

If your 17 your just inches away from going full tilt. I started formally investing a week after my 16th birthday but in those days you needed to be 21 to contract. Luck had it that my older brother was 19 and married so had the legal capacity to contract and was interested in doing some investing too.

You will run into some obstacles but I know you will find your way around them. Just know your stuff and maintain a sense of confidence. The first time I ran into a seller who was having a difficult time with my age, I looked 14, I finally took a physical stance of confidence and asked him "which are you more interested in my birth certificate, or a cashiers check for $_______ ". He chose the check.

I'm 21 and just starting out. All of your stories are a big confidence booster...especially the retiring before 30 parts haha

Real Estate Investor · Weston, Florida

I agree with Jarrett... except, I'm hoping that age is closer to around say... 22? 23?

Yeah... Gotta hustle.

Real Estate Investor · Los Angeles, California

Im 20, and I just started 6 months ago.

I used to think being young was a disadvantage starting out, because I thought people would talk down upon me.

However instead of looking at the negative, I realized being young is an advantage, because most adults I talk to say you remember so much more of what you learn at a young age, and you just have a lot more energy to go out and do things.

I just go in with that attitude now. I used to be shy and introverted. Still am in some ways, but I don't allow it to get in the way of doing business.

I work with 2 other business partners who are both 23. They are a little older than me, but we all share similar goals and values. Plus we are both young and just starting out. We keep each other motivated no matter how sour things may go.

We know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and its not going to be easy. But we already have the right mindset on holding off instant gratification to buy assets first and then use the asset money to buy more assets and some of your own personal expenses.

If you get into this habit at a young age, you are setting yourself up for a wealth of success.

I wish I could've started sooner, but no regrets. Just move forward you'll be fine. Remember don't give up, hang in there, no matter how lost, confused, down, or scared you feel.

18 here...I'm actually sitting here on the computer during lunch break, I'm at a real estate associates course at the college, training to become a realtor. I figured this would be a good step to take to learn the fundamentals of real estate and hopefully make some contacts!

But yea, 29 at the latest. Gotta hustle.

See you all on the other side.

Wholesaler · Detroit, Michigan

I'm 20 and just started about 6 or 7 months ago as far as learning. I am about to wholesale my first couple of properties this month. I agree being young can have its advantages. I originally got into real estate investment to save start up money to go into fashion (opening retail boutiques) but now I find that I really enjoy it and can see myself creating long-term wealth within a very short period of time. It's strangely fulfilling to know that I can make thousands of dollars every day only working 3 to 4 hours a day and spending the rest at art school.

Real Estate Investor · Atco, New Jersey

WOW, is there ever a big world out there for you! Follow your dream, whatever it costs. Let no man despise your youth. I'm brand new to this after retiring, but was recently at a stock option seminar where 2 14 yr olds were working to pay off college expenses BEFORE they arose! In this era of "victimhood" and "letting the gov't and other prople do it for me", meeting you reenforces my faith in the resiliency of this formerly great country. Thanks.

Rehabber · Lexington, Kentucky

I am 23 and started investing in stocks at age 16. I started w/ $3k dollars and turned that into $24k by 21. I earned a full college scholarship and have since graduated. I have organized and LLC with my friend and we have been working on our business plan for a while. We finally have our ducks in a row and are looking to purchase our first property by Jan.

I am also pursuing my real estate license, and hope to have that wrapped up by March.

I am also serving the military. I am trying to accomplish as many of my dreams as I can, and serving our great nation is a big one!
