1 'disgusting' apartment causes 15 evictions
Sure seems like this could have been handled better.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -
The new owner of the Windermere Apartments at 1055 W. Walnut St., near Broadway Avenue, is trying to evict nearly all the tenants. A letter posted on Wednesday on the doors of the tenants of the 17-unit building says they have until Friday to move out because of a health hazard: one incredibly filthy unit that was flagged by city inspectors.
The city got a search warrant and inspectors discovered feces, cockroaches, cats and a dog inside one apartment unit. The city condemned the unit because inspectors said it was unfit for humans.
The complex just changed hands a few days ago. The new owner, WPV LLC, says in a letter that it plans to clean house with professional pest control. WPV apparently needs all the units to be empty so it can treat all of them for bedbugs, roaches and other pests that would migrate from one unit to the rest if they're not all treated.
