I have seen similar before when I was an insurance adjuster. Unfortunately, I saw no damage to that apartment that would be covered by any insurance policy I know of. It's not vandalism if a tenant is merely a slob.
So the maid didn't show up this week, what's the big deal?
I saw this link posted on another forum this AM.
I didn't see any damage either. Just a helluva mess to clean up. I've dealt with some really gross tenants, but nothing that bad.
WOW! That's nuts! The only part of the couch that's clear, is where the person was obviously sitting while eating a smoking like a chimney. I probably would have puked if I saw the bathroom in person.
This reminds me of when I was pursuing rock stardom back in the late 80s.
Ok not really, the 13 of us living in the 900 sq ft, two bedroom hollywood apartment were not that bad.
That seriously appears as if the tenant suffered from some sort of phobia or manic illness. That is horrible.
Yes, I've seen worse than that! In fact, I bought a duplex that was much worse than that. Not only did it have all the stuff covering the floor, but the entire interior had been spray painted purple and black stripes (obviously during some drug binge). In addition, there were several 5 gallon buckets of human feces and urine in the house, which is how these scumbags used the bathroom without the water being turned on. Every window and door was broken out and there was not a single place in the entire duplex that you could see the floor. The matress wasn't in a bedroom, it was in the bathroom - apparently so the person could throw-up immediately after waking up.
The good part, I got an $80,000 duplex for $11,000!

I agree it is very gross; however, like Mike, I do see opportunity. Drop a container, put on some gloves and a mask and blow that place out.
WOW, that is sad. I wonder how people can live like that. Thats a prime example of why you need to screen your tenants.
At least they own an ironing board, I guess they don't want to look like slobs.
And nice pile of choice butts.
All those Shipley donut boxes make me hungry. You just can't get good donuts where they don't sell Shipleys.
Must be a bunch of college students.
I'd get 2 guys to clean it out in a day and move the furniture to the curb. Once they've got one room empty I start painting :)
This is my worry with my rental property which has beautiful wood floors and other great old house features. These tenants must have deliberately done this to get back at you. The smell in that place must be BAD. There are A LOT of sick and vindictive people out there.
I wouldn't be surprised to find there is real damage under that litter. All those spills probably have caused water damage/rot in places - plus there may be mold - and the whole place will certainly need to be painted - and maybe some floor replacement.
