Ok- wifey and I are going to take a month or 2 this summer and see the east or midwest. This is your chance to BRAG on your area. I know the WEST real well, but first time living in the east. I've seen the NY-Wash DC area. I want your ideas for fun or beauty from SWFL up the east coast and midwest down.
Any thoughts or ideas? Rich

Rich,

Never been there, but I hear the Carolinas are beautifull.

Stop in Cherokee, North Carolina for some phenomenal trout fishing. Very conducive to RVing there plus it's right in the center of the Smoky Mountains.

Real Estate Investor · Las Vegas, Nevada

Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina are definitely great places to stop.

Rich,

Within a couple of hours, you can see some of the historic sites that were prominent in our nation's founding - by visiting southeastern PA. Valley Forge (that's 5 to 10 minutes from me), Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House - they are all in PA. Then we also have Lancaster County, where many Amish still reside in their quaint lifestyle.

Real Estate Investor · North Carolina

All great suggestions, Rich. But if you visit the coastal Carolinas in the summer it can get miserably hot and humid. Did I mention mosquitos the size of small turkeys?.......

Real Estate Investor · sioux falls, South Dakota

Thanks for the suggestions. i think we'll have to do Carolinas. Anything in TN, WV, and Virginia? No motorhome on this one. Going by auto. Not sure which one..... Rich
p.s Have done PA on previous trip.

Real Estate Investor · Atlanta, Georgia

Another vote for Savannah and Charleston...

DC is great if you haven't spent much time there...between the museums and the monuments, you can spend a lot of time there and still not see it all. And if you're going in the Spring or very early summer, the foliage is great...

Stay away from Baltimore (I grew up there, so trust me :)...just drive right past...

And all of Vermont is gorgeous this time of year...

Real Estate Investor · New Jersey

What about Jersey? You could try to run into the kids from "Jersey Shore" and maybe get yourself on tv.

Does anyone from outside NJ know who I'm referring to?

Real Estate Investor · Bergen County, New Jersey

After checking out the country side driving up, stop by NJ and take the ferry around the Hudson to check out the city skyline. You could also take a helicopter right or even hot air balloon ride which would probably get you an awesome view of the skyline if you're up to spending more.

Then check out some Broadway plays if you're into that, and go downtown by south street seaport.
Brooklyn's has some great neighborhoods also if you'd like to see what else there is to NYC.

NYC is expensive but I think it's the best city out there!

Thanks to Robert, newinvestornj and J Scott for the suggestions. Rich

Real Estate Investor · Ocala, Florida

Rich,

If you are driving, you must stop anywhere in the Low Country. As stated above, there is no place in the U.S like the Low Country. [url] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Carolina_Lowcountry

I really hope you enjoy your trip.

Real Estate Investor · sioux falls, South Dakota

James- by car and will definitely spend some time in that area! BTW, where is it???? Rich

Rehabber · Grand Blanc, Michigan

Tennessee is one of my favorite vacation destinations. Nashville has a lot of attractions and great restaurants. The Jack Daniels distillery is only an hour from Nashville and it's a free tour. Very well worth taking the time to visit the distillery.

If you want beautiful countryside, I highly recommend the upper penninsula of Michigan. The southern shore of Lake Superior is stunning with massive rock formations. The northern shore of Lake Michigan on the south side of the penninsula is gorgeous with miles and miles of light sandy beaches. The UP is often an overlooked destination by even Michiganders.

Real Estate Investor · Ocala, Florida

Rich,

The "Low Country" is on the coast of South Carolina. If you go to the link I put into my reply, it explains a little about it.

Have fun, and keep us posted about your travels!

Check out Canaan Valley & Seneca Rocks area in West Virginia. was there in 2001...nice area.

Developer · Lake Orion, Michigan

If you do venture into MI I would recommend the northern west coast. Very nice little towns, great sunsets on white sand beaches, very good wine tours, charter fishing, lighthouses, ect.

I recommend because it is a nice vacation area without the usual tourist trappings. Mid july is best time of year in my opinion.
