With Thanksgiving arriving next week, we all need to take some time off and enjoy our families during the holidays. Also we need to contemplate exactly what we are thankful for.

I am Thankful for my wife who after I lost my job did not let me sit around and cry tears in my beers. Instead she had me start looking for an apartment building to buy. Therefore, 3 months after losing my JOB we had our first apartment building in July 1994. She quit her JOB in September 1994 and we have both been full time real estate investors since then. I have seen several tenants who lost their jobs 5 years ago and are still crying tears in their beers. They are not looking for a job. They are freeloading off of their girlfriend who provides them with a place to stay, money to buy the beers and a shoulder to cry on.

Man, am I ever Thankful that is not me doing that! How about the rest of the group - just what are you Thankful for during this time of Thanksgiving??

I am thankful that the recession seems to be ending, that my wife is as awesome as she is, and for our new baby daughter.

Great topic!

I'm thankful for grandchildren, one of which was born this past week. I'm thankful to live in a land of plenty and to have so many wonderful opportunities. I can't think of a better time to be a real estate investor.

Congrats Bryan and Charles on the new babies!

I'm actually thankful that we didn't have a baby this week! The little guy tried his best to break free about two months early, but the doctors convinced him that we'd be okay without the extra tax break this year...

Everyday I wake up on the right side of the grass I am thankful ! LOL

To me family and friends are everything.Money is just a means in life to help you do things that are meaningful and fulfilling.

I appreciate that everyone is healthy this year. Last year my wife's mother was fighting breast cancer stage 3 but this year we can all get together instead of her being sick as she is in remission. She just has the checkups every 3 months.

I always take a positive attitude that it can always be worse.

I think it's great to try for more but to remember and be thankful for what you currently have.

Hope everyone has a great Turkey day......

Wow real estate investors are fertile! Congrats

I am thankful for my wife and 2 boys, and all of us being in good health. Looking forward to many good memories with my family in the coming years.

I truly believe gratitude is the best emotion to feel every day. Of course thats every day.

On thanksgiving I will be thankful for the turkey naps and football!

Landlord · Seattle, Washington

Joel you are so right. There are so many things to be thankful for that money can't buy. Health is a great example. Glad that your mother-in-law is doing well. Enjoy your turkey day.

Great topic!
I am most thankful for my wife, and our two sons, who are 7 and 3, and that we're all in good health. They are really the reason I get up in the morning.
I'm also thankful for having a good job that earns me enough that we don't have to worry about paying our bills. I've seen what be short of money can do to families - the stress even more than the doing without - so I feel like it's good to stop once in a while and think about how fortunate we are that there is nothing like that standing in the way of our being happy.
I'm also thankful about 2010 being the year that we got off the sidelines and got our first couple of properties - we made the step from thinking about/preparing/wishing for our dreams and actually started working on them. Despite this just being our first couple of baby steps, that's a big deal for us.

Great topic!

Joel-- I agree; we must be thankful & happy for what we have, but if we dream of more, then we can't be complacent. We have those dreams for a reason! And as it was already mentioned, money just gives you options. Without it, you have few. With lots of money, your options can be almost limitless!

Sure, I want the financial security that comes with being successful, however, the last 2 yrs or so, I've really started to give back heavily, but wish to do so much more in that area. Its hard to make a big impact in the world with limited resources. That is one of my "drives," to see how much I can give back.

What am I thankful for? Awesome health & physical shape; great team members to work with; incredible teachers over the years who have taught, pushed & challenged me; a wonderful girlfriend and her son--he is 3 yrs old and has cystic fibrosis and had a liver & small bowel transplant, but has been doing really, really well. Honestly, too many things to really mention here, but you get the message! :)

Jimmy-- what are "turkey naps?"

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Kevin I see in your pic you take martial arts. What current rank are you and style?

I use to take Chinese Kenpo way back and took some time off. Then I started taking Taekwondo.

I am currently 3rd degree black belt and February 2012 I will be able to test for 4th.

Joel:

If you wish to carry on side discussions - please use PM for that. Otherwise, stay on topic - please??

Private Money Lender · Omaha, Nebraska

Joel isn't necessarily off topic, as I'm sure that Joel is thankful for his opportunity to study the martial arts & for the growth and development, as well as friendships it has brought into his life over many years. I know I am! :)

Mobile Home Investor · Spanaway, Washington

DUH! Perhaps the 2 of you could then start your own forum topic - I think I would be thankful for that basic consideration from both of you!

Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

I am thankful for a great family and a very supportive wife.

I am very thankful for coming across BiggerPockets and I am also thankful to you guys for making BP a wonderful resource. Some of the more experienced members may not realize what a huge impact they make in the lives of newbies like us, so a BIG THANK YOU to all you guys out there. :-)

Max, BP is a great resource and I'm also thankful that Josh and the many other contributors put there time in making this site possible. The site has been around 6 years and continues to grow. Thanks everyone for your willingness to share your experiences, knowledge and time.

I hope that many new investors are able to find this place because it can help get them started in the right direction.

I went into the woods Sunday and spent the whole day there from before dawn till after dark in silence. I just felt complete thankfulness for every joy and pain that brought me to that day.

Real Estate Investor · -, Illinois

I am thankful that I have a great family to wake up to everyday. It was this time 3 years ago that I almost lost my wife and unborn son. Eventhough he ended up coming 2 months early (on Christmas day) due to the complications, he showed me how strong such a little person can be.

For me, when it comes to the end of the day, all you have is your family.
