I'm just not sure if the world is going to continue to allow us to monetize our debt. While Europeans are making such great sacrifices.

Any opinions?

I have to admit, I didn't read any of your listed links. However, I've read quite a bit on this. The obvious choice is the Chinese currency for just the growth and strength. However, they don't want it. They are in a better position, imo tieing to the dollar because of their/our position.
Somewhere I read that the previous world currencies are always changed. Someone that is more techie could find it. There were reasons we replaced the British currency after the wars. The British currency replaced a different currency.
I don't see another currency at the present time that might replace us, although India is also coming on strong in many areas and not in serious debt.Rich

Rich,

Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

imo tieing to the dollar because of their/our position.

How much longer can we sustain this position?

The obvious choice is the Chinese currency

Reuters reports that MIT economist Simon Johnson has predicted the Chinese yuan will replace the dollar as the world's reserve currency within the next twenty years. He added that the US will see its dominance ebb during this period. China's rise as a global power is virtually undisputed, and no one seriously doubts that China will one day eclipse the US as the world's most important economy. While this news may sadden us as citizens, it should motivate us as investors.

Perhaps we should review our longterm portfolio gaols and diversify accordingly?

How could this reflect in the RE markets worldwide?

HHHMM??? (does anyone else hear squeaky wheels turning?)

Regards, Lee

No. With advances in Technology it is now much easier now to access exchange rates than ever before. So what you will see is the move away from one dominate world currency.

As this happens of course the value of the dollar will continue to suffer. Let's just hope the decline of the dollar is gradual.

I'll preface this post by saying that the author of this "article" makes his living by selling fear. Without it, he has nothing. Still, it's kind of an interesting read:

U.S. Dollar Collapse Could Occur at Any Time

DeuceSevenOff

That was a good read.

Anyone out there think a global currency is on the table?

Opinions on that? Could it work? Is it a conspiracy?

I propose that with the continued globalization and consolidation of world markets it's eventually inevitable.

I don't see it, Not in my lifetime, anyway.

I don't think the Euro has exactly been a success.

Hi All,

I am a believer that the Dollar could be on its way to self destruction, compliments of the US government and the Fed. To much debt and printed money out there. I read an interesting article from an economist, Martin Armstrong(radical one at that), who thinks the way of the future will be a new global currency consisting of the Yuan,Euro and some others. That said, he also says Gold will reach $5000 by 2015 and were in for another Economic low in July 2011(not another recession just a low/correction). He has an Economic Confidence Model that in the past has been pretty accurate.

I of course hope things improve and government stops spending money and printing it like its going out of style. I have bought real estate in Brazil and have watched the real fly high in this time vs the dollar. I have contemplated buying another unit in Brazil instead of considering the US due to its uncertain economy.

Here is his link to his site and his story.

Shadowstats has the real inflation rate at around 5%, which is pretty consistent with what I see when shopping for goods and services:

I see in the near future paper money being replaced by electronic credits and if you want to spend some of that new electronic money just press a button on your new tablet and bam you got what you wanted all done electronically.

Real Estate Investor · Austin, Texas

I actually studied electronic money in a graduate EE class I took in college. I don't see paper money going away though. There are far too many reasons for people to hide things.

Yea I was thinking 50-100 years

I'll be lucky to make it.

I'm 62 and I firmly believe I'll see the dollar slip away from leading currency in my lifetime, and I don't expect to live till I'm 100! Rich

Rich,

I certainly hope you live that long however, I believe it will be your grandchildren my children that see a one world currency. Personally I believe a one world currency has been in the works since the templers and see no reason why that would change now.

But then again WTFDIK

All throughout history if there was a serious enough disagreement one could simply start a new country there was plenty of mostly unoccupied land now not so much.

Now I see it more as united we stand divided we fall globally.

Real Estate Investor · Altus, Oklahoma

One world currency would probably mean then new world order has risen.

Real Estate Consultant · San Antonio, Texas

Mr_Investor

Yea but what does that really mean?

Is it some diabolical elitist force or what is best for global finances?

We have gotten several new bills recently what is the difference as long as we maintain our rights?

PS I'm not for or against this I simply want to see all the angles.

The NWO is basically a one world government controlled by one ruler under a fascist state. The NWO will control all aspects of communication, monies, censorship, freedoms and other aspects to dominate the masses like puppets.

And that Lee is a very bad thing.

So would you argue that a world currency is indicative of a one world government?

What is the UN?

I'd guess what we are saying is that we must preserve our democratic rights as our world and it's resources grow smaller & smaller.

Real Estate Investor · Austin, Texas

Many popular authors advancing a conspiracy theorist agenda think the Fabians are gradually trying to control the world by gradually moving toward a world currency. We had a 100+ post on hyperinflation a while back that you may want to check out if you believe in such things.
