As I stated in a thread a year ago, I qualifed for SS of a whopping $749 per month.(I BARELY paid enough income taxes to qualify). I give it away each month, because I'd rather stimulate the economy that let the govt do it. Several on BP have suggested worthy recipients, and I've gladly complied.
For this month, we purchased a complete cooked meal at Albertsons. Our funds covered 15 families. I have a friend that manages a big box store with a Tree of needy families. Donors were selecting the family card to take care of toys-we took care of the meal. Delivering them this afternoon and evening. Great feeling to surprise folks! Rich

Michael - I'm not really a believer of 'holidays' as I believe that everyday should be 'holy'. Why not give of ourselves throughout the year? If we're talking about CHRISTmas then we must remember that the man didn't just give and perform miracles during a certain time of year. Nonetheless good topic.

I kinda agree and kinda disagree. I use to think that everyone wanted more. Have more do more. I use to ask why settle. Then as I become more aware of both my achievements and failures I realize I too have a layaway plan. It may not be at target however is still vivid.

Certainly we all could achieve both better and more. I imagine that there are more people than I want to realize that have a target layaway plan AND much more success than I will ever achieve. I use to think success was defined by zeros.

As for giving. I don't think there is a better way to define ourself. From catering school lunches to buying groceries for everyone in the store on thanksgiving to giving yellow letters away. From cars to the needing to cash to single moms trying to cover life. helping certainly isn't reserved for a holiday however a holiday is a great justification.

Giving tree. We (gf and I) sponsor 5 kids in Mexico and Bolivia. Have visited a couple times. We receive more than we give with them.

Some work smart and some work hard. I have been the hard worker but have had dumb luck. With that luck I owe. Much rather be on the giving end then on the receiving side.
