Real estate has people from all kinds of professional backgrounds, some of which you'd be shocked. So what did you do before real estate ?

I spent 15 years as a CFP or Certified Financial Planner. I found that a very large percentage of my wealthy clients had made money in real estate so I started doing it. I retired from financial planning several years ago. I did establish a network marketing business that provides me with a very good cash flow and allows me the time to do real estate projects. I rehab houses and hold some for rentals and others I flip. It is great to be out of the rat race!

Salesman, industrial products; nuts, bolts, screws, hydraulic hose and fittings, tools etc.
Nuclear Security then from there to sales.
You name it....I've sold it. Furniture, Cars, Pots and Pans, Siding, Insulation, ect... I guess the most interesting job prior to real estate was Taxi Cab Driver.
I work in Civil Service as an engineering technician. Working on getting rid of the technician part.
I still work because I only have 1 rental.
Cutting grass. My uncle and I started a lawn care business a few years back, and he wont let me leave, so Ill probably be cutting grass forever....with or without real estate. :D
I was in sales - my whole life. From shoes to software to shelters. Certainly salesmanship helped me in REI even after I left the 9-5 behind.
I was in the automation industry as a controls system software engineer. I left for 5 yrs to be in RE full time as an agent and loan officer, while building my REI portfolio. After five years, My portfolio has grown greatly and I have recently returned to the automation industry and don't foresee ever counting on RE for my only income source ever again.
I feel like it is free money. Granted I have to be there 40 hrs a week, but heck, I am now doing RE and mortgage deals in about 1 evening a week that before I just went to my office for every day. A job is guaranteed money. RE money has highs and lows, when you couple it with now having a company sponsored health plan, I am in far better shape doing both...If/when my Real Estate activities make me 3 times what my JOB does in consistent income, I may consider quitting. Otherwise, Real Estate is my other full time job.
I am currently a school social worker. I work in one of Jersey's toughest cities............it's time for a new profession!!
Door to door sales for a couple years, remodeling part time for a year or so, and then into real estate.
Electrical Tech for 9 years and counting. Not a bad job. I buy real estate to hold for the long haul. I don't spend the money I make off of them. I treat my RE like a 401k I'm starting to ramp up my offers I'm putting out. I have had 3 duplexes for 1.5 years. so far so good. In that time frame I was able to put $9,500 in the bank and have about $40,000 in equity so far. Not to bad for a 1.5 year run. what type of Stock would give you that return on no money  Plus in about 8 years I will be able to pay those properties off so then the rents will give me more than social security would.
WOW those are pretty broad backgrounds. I work with HGTV's new reality show Bought & Sold and i've taken a real interest in real estate. I'm learning a lot from the show and one thing i noticed is that pple on the show have very interesting backgrounds.
I can't say I have, I might of seen it. I know I watched one show were the guy doing the flips was a full time software engineer and just did real estate part time in the weekends and nights. That is honestly the best approach. So many people get a fire that REI is easy and is for everyone.
I worked for TABC Toyota Manufacturing for 6 years on 2nd shift. And quit 2 months ago because i finally found a 1st shift job that pay's me the same salary. Also now i can spend time with my wife and kids and do what i love most REI... :D :D :D
thats cool...yea its a good show. the market there in New Jersey is tough,
again its also good to see peoples backgrounds, and what they did before, etc...
I started sellin vaccums door to door, then became a divisional sales trainer and recruiter fot that company. I was a Manager at Pet's'Mart concentrating on boosting sales. I've sold cars, and was a sales manager in the car industry. I was about to go into financial planning and through networking landed in brokering Bulk REO and Note packages. It's great, I am truely blessed!!!
I worked in new construction clean-up for a tract builder I kept seeing so many things in the new homes that drove me crazy so I would make a list everyday for the builder. Finally, after a year he pitched a Nextel to me and said you handle it so I did and have been for the last 8 years. :woohoo:
I work as a finance director for an insurance company. REI is more of a sideline for now.
Software engineer and then management for groups of engineers. Silicon Valley when I was on the vendor side and then later banking when I was on the client side. Different countries along the way.

I am in school to be an Accountant (CPA preferrably) and will hopefully get some real estate deals going on the side.
