real estate investing for dummies

hey everyone. I was in barnes and noble the other day and found a book called real estate investing for dummies. Does anyone have experience with this book and would like to comment on it? As a newbie I am making the first step by attending a real estate investing club in Indianapolis. I am reading this forum religiously and now I want to supplement my studies with a book.

Don't stop with studying one book. REI is not an easy road to riches and the more you know the better you will do.

i'm personally not a fan of "the dummies" series.. but i know a few people who enjoy their books.. Whatever the case, i'm sure the book is worth a read

BE CAREFUL! When I first started out in Real Estate Investing, I went to the library & brought home around 12 books!! My boyfriend thought I was crazy...

Real Estate Investing for Dummies is great!! Rich Dad-Poor Dad is great! Just be careful you don't get overloaded & saturated...

I just purchased The Millionaire Real Estate Investor by Gary Keller.

Although I'm only into the first few chapters, it seems like an excellent resource. Very motivating for a newbie!

Let me offer one piece of Advise for life and investing. If you want to be broke do the same as everyone else. 95% of all people that call themselves investors will never buy a home other than their own.

Never take advice from anyone that is not 10 times better than you. Find a good Mentor, make sure he will take the time to work with you. MANY of them will only see you as a student untill you earn their respect.

Never follow the herd and Roar never bleat.

I have done this a few years, and if I could do it different. I would start with Multi Family or Commercial. That is the fastest path to success.

Im not a fan of the 'for dummies' series either. I think mostly b/c I feel buying it, Im calling myself a dummy. (Which I like to think I am not). I have read a TON of books tho. I recommend reading 2 negotiation books, 2 marketing books, 2 selfhelp/success books, 2 flipping books, and a handful of the Home Depot Do-It-Yourself manuals to get familiar with how a home is built and repairs are done.

Heres a lot of good Real Estate Related Books.

The dummies books are a great way to get an idea of how things work in a broad spectrum. As for detailed analysis, you'll need to do more research in whatever particular area you are interested in.

I also liked the "Property Managment for Dummies". Once again, it is very basic, but a good starter book.

You can get a used copy of Carlton Sheets no down payment course off of ebay for cheap. Also another good one is Dolf dee roos - real estate investors college. The dummies books I think are probably a good idea as well. Here's a tip: just turn on commute time into study time by listening to audio books on REI. That way you'll get the hours in your need to learn the business.
