Hey Guys . . . I've been putting this off for forever  , but now is as good a time as any. I'm looking for quality material to add the the BiggerPockets store. I could go and add every course out there, but only want to add those that are tops. As such, I'm interested in hearing your opinions on the subject.

I wanted your opinions on those courses that you think are good quality and worthwhile.

Can you tell us ALL the courses that you think are worth carrying on BiggerPockets?

Additionally, if you could let us know why you find each of them worthwhile, that would be great!

If we end up selling the course that you "mini-review", provided your review is usable (good quality), we'll add your review and link back to your profile . . . a good way to get some renewed PR for yourself!

I look forward to hearing all of your opinions.

Best,
Josh

Josh... Ive been watching for posts on this forum, but nothing, so i'll go first. I did Dave Del dotto coaching back in the late 80's and felt it gave me the push I needed to get out there and get that first deel. for me I think coaching is great if you are willing to do the work.

Well lets see. Boy, thats a tough question. I have literally spent several thousand dollars spread over 30 plus investing courses and conferences over the years.

I would say that the best residentail courses or series of courses I have purchased are those by Chuck Smith. I have read/listened to his Ultimate Real Estate Investing course, and luxury home, and probate courses. Each has been top rate, and can actually be applied by someone with a modest amount of investing experience.

The best commercial courses I have purchased have been Dave Lindhal's Apartment House Riches course, and Scott Scheel's Commercial investing course are excellent resourses for someone starting out in commercial investing.

Each of the course I have listed above I can honestly say have made me money. For me that is the ultimate measure. BTW these are a handful of the well over 2 dozen courses I have purchased over the years.

Recommendation #1 - Bob Diamond's Bankruptcy course. If your looking for a hot lead source, and little to no competition, this course is solid. You'll be amazed at how quickly these sellers respond to your marketing.

Recommendation #2: Heather Seitz's Probate Course. The marketing letters alone are priceless to get the phone ringing with sellers who NEED to sell, in addition to there being little, to no competition. She's one of a few who are of high integrity and ethics. The course is easy on the pockets as well.

Recommendation #3 - Dustin Mathews' Business Credit Infusion. You learn a great deal about how to establish business credit, how to leverage business credit to grow your real estate investing business all without having to go into a bank, having a business plan or showing your financials.

I like Steve wholesaling for quick cash 2.0, Larry Goins and John Cash Locke "Sub 2 is What I do"

Steve's Wholesaling for Quick Cash 2.0 was a really good course and the audio CD's and DVD were a great supplement. Im about to start Rehabbing for Big Cash v2.0.

Real Estate Investor · Charlotte, North Carolina

I like Claude Diamond and Ray Como. They both have really innovative strategies that aren't expressed they way they do.

Lonnie Scruggs - Deals on Wheels. It's pretty affordable at $19.95 for the book and $189 for the home study course (last time I checked) ;)

· Edmonton, Alberta

Dolf Dee Roos - Real Estate Investors College

Carlton Sheets - No Down Payment

Some may think this a bit "newbie-ish", but I've liked Robert Allen's stuff. Not necessarily relating to real-estate directly, but his motivational stuff I've liked quite a bit. Honestly, I'm looking forward to sending him $1000 someday just as a thank you for the motivation. Then again, you can get his stuff for free if you just wait around for another one of his promotions. Haha!

Something that I am going to seriously consider soon is Scott Myers self-storage investing program. Once I get it and review it, I'll let everyone know what I think.

If you want to learn how to sell ice to an eskimo, buffalo pelts to an environmentalist, and actual free market economics to Obama, try Marshall Sylver's training. He's a smooth talking, total player, slickmmeister, vegas performer hypnotist who can sell and will come out and tell you he's selling to you...and still sell to you. And he will teach you how to sell in addition how to know when you're being told too. If selling or not being sold to is your thing - he's good.

The best money I ever spent wasn't on a course but an information service. Do those count?

Honestly the best courses I've taken so far have been the ones I've spent the least money on. They were online real estate investing courses (parts 1 & 2) through Florida Community College of Jacksonville. The first course was a great intro to investing. Part 2 was more focused on the financial aspects of investing. The instructor was Josh Fuhrer. The link to the course catalog is http://www.ed2go.com/fccj/. The course was about 6 weeks and only cost $89. There were people from all over the country taking the courses. His writing style was very clear and he condensed the information in a manageable format. There were 2 classes released a week, which allowed for time to digest the material. His homework was practical, and it was obvious that he was doing it because he loved teaching.
Hope this helps,
Kim

Kim,

thanks for the advice on taking the online RE course. I did not realize that was available and will probably sign up (I'm somewhat of a newbie - have been reading and listening to a lot of gurus, etc. but need to put all the pieces together).

I have 2 quick questions:
1 - did you receive a Certificate of Completion (or something similar) at the end of the course? The reason I ask is that I found the same course offered through ExpertRating.com (http://www.expertrating.com/certifications/InstructorLed/Personal-Finance-Wealth-Building/Real-Estate-Investing/Real-Estate-Investing.asp) for $10 more but they issue a certificate at the end of the course. Is one even necessary?
2 - have you taken the second course Real Estate Investing II: Financing Your Property? Can it be taken simultaneously with the first?

Thanks for your help!

Sergey

I took the same course so I can answer your questions:

1.I received a certificate of completion when I was done with the course so yes they do have one when you are done with the course.

2.Yes you can take both at the same time. I haven't taken the second one yet but you can sign up for as many courses as you want so as long as you can handle them all at once.

Real Estate Investor · California

Thanks James,

I will take both of them at the same time.

Regarding my other question, I figured it out myself - the link I posted above (expertrating.com) leads to the same course as you can take through other community colleges, except that it's $10 more. Certificates are given in both cases as you are pretty much taking the same class. I've learned that I can take it through my local CC college (Golden West College) for $89 as well - all in all, it doesn't matter which venue you take it through as you will be in the same online class as others from other CCs around the country.

Thanks for the quick answers. This is a great forum - I've been looking for this for a while and unexpectedly stumbled upon it. Thanks!
