Anyone know of any good groups in Oregon and or Washington?
Thanks,
I'm in portland with the same question. Google fails me here, can't seem to find any group, though I presume one or a few exist!
took some digging (this link might have even come from a BP thread) I found Northwest Real Estate Investors.
It's in portland, but it seems the only professional one I could find in Oregon.
There is another group in Seattle, but none of these guys seem to make a decent website...
$150 membership it says for the Portland one, is that typical?
I used to belong to that one... They have been around for a while. I am not a member any longer. I may join again in the near future.
And yes... most will have membership fees... They will let you visit as a guest to come check them out.
Let me know if you find any others... I was looking for a smaller group to join. Thinking of starting my own...
Was the size of this group not working for you?
I would like a small, motivated and focused group to get involved with personally.
West Coast,
I think the group you mentined is just fine. As I said in my earlier post, I was a member for quite some time, and I really enjoyed it.
I will PM you my answer as I dont want any of my comments to be mistaken by other readers as negitive towards that group.
Thanks,
I am a member of the NWREII in Portland/Vancouver area. It is a fine club with quite a lot of meetings and classes to attend if that is what you want. And the hundred and a half for membership is pretty typical. I even go to a meeting once in a while.
We have our general meeting the first Thursday of the month as I remember. But I don't know where it is held as they just changed the meeting site. Web site is www.northwestreia.com and you can get meeting info there.

West Coast,
I agree, smaller groups allows for a tighter knit community, one that people can feel comfortable sharing their ideas or experiences, and it also allows for the group to stay better focused in my opinion. I am also looking for an REI groups that is smaller, as I am just starting, trying to keep up with the larger groups could be more challenging, and the learning curve would have more uncertainty.
What do you want to focus on? In a small group you might not have anyone else with your same focus. Almost anything you want can be found at NWREII. I have been a member for about three years and I bet I don't know 75% of the members. I network with the ones that I have found with similar goals as me. There was a much smaller group that was started by the previous president of the NWREII and I went to one of their meetings to find out what it was like. A couple of weeks after that if closed down because it could not sustain itself. With a large group like NWREII you will have a much greater chance of networking with the folks that you need to meet with to get what ever you want to get done, done.
Just my $0.02.
Hey guys,
I've been a member of Northwestreia since September of last year. I think it's really great. They have some smaller focus groups that meet throughout the month and I enjoy going to a couple of those. I've only been to a few general meetings where they bring in a national or regional speaker to talk to the group. They have discounts that come with the membership so it's well worth it. Just networking and meeting some of the seasoned investors is a good start for us newbies. Hope to meet you guys someday.

Tim is spot on. I have been a member of NWREII when I was living in the area. The group started about 20 years ago so it is very well established.
Note that the group is large enough that they have special interest groups (SIG) in focused topics. Much easier to find others who are interested in the specific topics at the SIG meetings. The general meetings tend to have a good turn out but that will vary based on the announced speaker.
NWREII covers metro Portland including S WA. There are 2 or 3 satelite groups south of Portand and east of Portland. Check the website.
Tim and I first met through the mailing list run by NWREII. We also ran into each other at some meetings.
There is a RE group in Tacoma WA. A separate RE group is in Seatle WA.

Tim, Ray, & John,
Thanks for the input, I hadn't realized the group was that size, I had assumed (yes I know...wrong wrong wrong) that it was smaller group comprised of 50-100 people. I may have to go and check them out. Are there meetings still the 1st thursday of every month? If so I may just attend this week. Thanks again.
Cheers,

Hello everyone!
Last week I called WealthBuilders Real Estate Investors Association, Northwest Real Estate Investors Association and left a messages on both of their answering machines!
Yes I wanted to talk to a live person and ask questions over the phone instead of just going to a website.
I have not heard one peep from either of these two REI groups whats up with that ?
Still Waiting...

Another one in WA is REAPS (Real Estate Association of Puget Sound). It's one of the biggest one's in the King county area!!!
I'm also a member of NWREIA. I enjoy the meetings. Because of the amount of traveling I do for my j-o-b, I haven't been able to make it to a general meeting at all. I've only been a member since this past summer, but the other meetings throughout the month are enjoyable. The general meeting is held somewhere close to the Convention Center in Portland, and a number of other meetings are held at the Baja Fresh in Tigard, near the Washington Square mall.
Why not start a local BP group? When I'm not traveling, I'm always free to spend my time trying to ditch the dependence on the job, and I'd be more than happy to meet for coffee and chat real estate. I should say in advance though, I have zero experience, and just looking to get started with wholesaling.
I used to be a member of REAPS until I moved out of the area. Good presentation of diverse general information with follow up weekend classes. There are hundreds of people at the meetings on the UW campus making it effective to shout out to said group your "haves and wants" and create new business. I would become a member again.
Check out NWRia and REAPS if you're in the Seattle area.
