I've heard good and bad things about Wachovia. They are fairly new here in So. Cal, so I'm not up to speed on them.
Anyone have an opinion?

One of the largest banks in the country. They are stable and quite wel-known around the US. They may have exposure to sub-prime, but who doesn't, right?
I'm not sure how old the data on this site are, but the link below shows Wachovia as being the 3rd largest in the USA:

Wachovia just raised $7 Billion from existing shareholders and cut their dividend. They will survive!!! I just saw a new branch in Santa Monica and new billboards off the 10 fwy. They definitely want to enter this market.
I deal with them here in PA. Their customer service and attention to detail is their strong point. This is very impressive considering their size. I would say that this distinguishes them from other large banks. Smaller banks may not offer the resources or programs you need. Customer service from a large bank with resources -- I consider them to be a unique package in terms of getting the job done with the least amount of anxiety.
As you may now know, W. is having trouble... losse$ and lay offs.
