The company 'Window World' is advertising any white double hung window replacement installed for $189. Has anyone had any experience with them? Do they honor this price? If not, do people have a good place they go for replacement windows?
Thanks.

We have similar low end vinyl replacement windows as what you describe. These are AOK for check rentals and cheap flips and most of the time much more energy efficient than original wooden windows.
On a nicer house you want a nicer window. Any major name will have several lines to choose from be they vinyl, fiberglass, wood, clad etc. We use a lot of Marvin and Weathershield windows.
Some folks like Pella but we find their product is not so good in an older home or historic home where window style is very important to home value.
You should be able to find a local supplier of what ever line you choose, who also does installs. Remember the install includes any prep of the frame and usually trim work needs to be done inside and out.
Gage your selections carefully. Where we work windows must often be OK'd by historic bureau in the permitting process.

Window World has come under fire from the Better Business Bureau about the accuracy of their $189 claim. The specific problems were:
I would add that saying the install is hit or miss may be a bit generous being as how all the low budget companies pay their subs about half as much as most of the other companies out there a sub can work for.
I do think they have a decent window, but the price won't end up being $189 each.
Do you conside UPVC window?the UPVC thickness is 2.5mm.The support steel is standard zincification support steel, the thickness is 1.2mm.Glass: isolated safety glass (5mm Low-e +9A+5mm clear glass). This kind of windows are mostly used in the north of China and are energy effective. The price isn't expensive.
I just spoke with my local Window World and was considering to use them for a low income property I have my eyes on in Upstate NY. They said that the 189 price is good for windows up to 60" wide and 90" tall. They did inform me that there is an additional $10 per window fee to dispose of existing windows, but only after I inquired. The property I am looking at has single pane double hungs that must be original and anything double hung will be better. If I get anywhere with the dal and decide to call them in for a measuring, I will advise on price quote.
Hi,Is the glass single pane?what is material for the window? The price is nice.
We looked at WW, and went with a company called See Through Windows. I don't know how large they are. Their advertised price was $159 per window, and yes, it was the lower end vinyl, double pane, no frills, disposal not included, 3 - 4 weeks to installation, etc. Our final price for Low E, insulated (foam filled) frame, windows wrapped price came in at just about $280 per window, and when compared to the WW windows, were better windows at a lower price. We were impressed with the installers (company employees). Two guys showed up and got the whole house done in a little over 1/2 day (single story 3/2). If I had a gotcha, we fell for wide sliders (single window) where we originally had two double hung side by side. Saved money (one window instead of two, although the sliders were more expensive), and looked nicer, but, as the installer explained, when you take out that middle support between the original double hung windows, you lose strength in the framing and can have troubles later on. Also, those were the only windows they struggled to install, and the sliders don't have the R value or security features of the double hung.
Oh.We produced some UPVC window for a America customer who is in Chicago according his drawing. 1127 sq ft.various size and shape. double pane,low-e,The cheapest is 90USD/sqm,the most expensive is more than 200$/sqm.
I just had window world install new vinyl windows in one of my dads rentals. It was $325 per window after all their fees, but they did have it in their quote. In MN and WI we use Silverline their made by AW, they are good quality and also qualify for the tax rebate this year. You can find them at Stock Building Supply.

I live in Wisconsin and we use ABC. The brands they carry that I have used are simington and vinlymax. I have used both in the last two months. We use the tan for a 10% upcharge and it makes the houses look 200x better. I am not sure which ones I like better. I felt the vinlymax felt cheaper, but the simingtons had a pinched seal one two of the HUGE picture windows (which simington comes to your house to fix for free). Pick your insaller with care and get aluminum wrap if you can afford it.
I am an ex installer for Window World. They do not care what you think of their very bad products. They will not give you your money back. Their warrenty does not apply. They will keep charging you money for anything that goes wrong. In my very breif, dissatisfying stent with this company I wittnessed unlicensed subcontractors do such substandard and sloppy work that I had to call the building inspectors of the cities, county, and state that I was working in to speak my mind as to the activities of this awfull company. Because I did this they fired me, although I was not going to work there anymore. I have higher standards as well as being discusted with their products and customer service. I would seriously advise everyone not to use this company for anything.
Hi Hal:
I have seen Window World do projects in my area. There are other fees involved but at the end of the day they are very competitive.
The fact is that replacement windows are inexpensive and usually can install quickly especially if the windows you are replacing are the old single pane glass ones.
I think that you will find several companies that will all be around the same price as Window World. Don't worry too much. This is simple stuff and easy to repair if there are errors.

I have used Window World once with great success. They did try to add on extra fees for extra services, I did not need the extras, so I paid exactly what the ad said for the window and the install itself. For larger living room window, they did charge a bit more.
