I loosely considered this option too, when state farm jacked my rates up by 50% when I filed no claims and no other clear cause for it. I was told it was "a market adjustment." They also were quick to tell me "everyone is doing it." Blah blah. Bunch of liars. I made a few calls and got great rates on my rentals with a different company. Insurance agents have some control on the price of your policy. Find one that really wants your business, and hopefully the rates won't be too bad, if that is the reason why you're considering this angle. And btw: I almost had a bunch of homes bulldozed by a tornado this year... missed by a half mile.
well, I just want to know if there is a liabillity option? I don't need other insurance for my homes.
I would think that if you do not have a mortgage, then you could get any type of insurance you want. You should also consider an umbrella policy if you do not have one.
Ed---State Farm did the same to me. Which company did you find to be more reasonable?
Patrick: I ended up going with shelter insurance. They're big in MO, not sure if they're in MI. A great approach to getting lower rates is to call a few agents on the other side of your state. After all, you're gravy if you're not in their market to begin with. I pretty much halved the rates the jerks at state farm were shoving down my throat. They lied and lied and lied...
Bjarne: What motivates you to consider dropping all property coverage?
I also have a number of Properties in Ohio and use Preferred Insurance Services Inc. I did quite a bit of price comparisons and got a really good commercial liability rate. PM me and I'll get you the contact info.
To answer your question more directly, there are plenty of insurance providers that will sell you a liability only policy.
