WSJ reported last week that a lot of banks are selling their portfolios to foreign banks/insurance companies. WAMU just sold ALL of its sub-prime loans to a french insurer. of course, they'll suffer from a slow down in business, but it may not be as bad as the S&L crisis. i’m not sure if the banks will suffer from bad loans.
