This matter has already been discussed, but it bears repeating. Far more people were killed in Iraq that day than in Virginia, and Monday was one of the “less bloody” days that week. Yet we see no presidential appearances at memorial convocations, no flags at half-mast, no moments of silence in Congress, no national days of mourning, no endless amounts of “news” coverage; so fuck it, fuck your blog silence and your other meaningless pathetic gestures, they’re idiotic and moronic. As long as the American people turn a blind eye and an apathetic ear to the killing that they fund with their tax dollars, I don’t give a flying fuck about the “tragedies” that burst their little security bubbles.

Sholomanarchy - what do you suggest we do? We have NO control over congress, the war in Iraq, the lack of coverage, the lack of observance - NONE. Does that mean people don’t care? Hell no - it’s just too big for most to comprehend. A day/week/month of silence won’t fix the problems in the middle east, nor will it bring our troops home. Does that mean we shouldn’t be saddened by what happened in Virginia? Are the people that died there less important?

Have to say, I hadn’t heard of the day of blog silence, and it seems a little gimmicky (which was going to be my original comment, until I read sholo’s).

I agree that it is a bit gimmicky, but I had hoped it might strike a bit of dialogue. As for your rant, Sholomanarchy, I agree. However, spewing your anger isn’t going to change a thing. You should take all that energy you’ve got and direct it towards something positive. Tired of all the BS? Want a national day of mourning? Start one! Don’t cry about why this country sucks and not lift a finger to change it.

Frankly, it seems to me like you’re just here to get some attention for yourself. Not only do you plug your website here, but you’ve posted the same exact post elsewhere on another site I run. I’m willing to bet if I look around the net, we’ll find your rant posted across the board.

So you’ve got our attention . . . now what?
