At approximately 7am PST Our Servers Crashed!

After 14 hours of hard work, we have finally gotten our server back up and running. BiggerPockets.com crashed early this morning and we have been working non-stop to get back online. This has been both a horrible and a remarkable day at the same time.

It is never good when something goes wrong, but sometimes these things happen for a positive reason. I believe that is the case in this situation. BiggerPockets has become such a popular destination for real estate investors and others in the real estate field that we have simply been overworking our machines. Our site has been experiencing tremendous growth, and this growth has led to a difficult day. Lets call it growing pains.

That said, as we move forward, we will be upgrading our equipment to prevent this from happening again.

I want to express my deepest apologies for any inconvenience this crash may have caused for any of you, and hope we can count on your continued support as we move forward in the fuure.

Josh,

You have my empathy. I have gone through the server crash situation a couple of times with sites and it is exhausting. One was a hard drive that went bad for a forum site I ran. Of course the backups were bad so I ended up flying to the city the host was, entered the super secret hosting facility, and got the hard drive to try to recover the data.

One thing to others reading this I recommend. Get a secondary cheap hosting site and test your backups there. It does no good to do backups regularly if there is a problem with them and they end up not working.

For 50-60 bucks a year of hosting costs to have a backup and testing site it is well worth the money.

Hope all is now well,

Tom

I can understand your problem very well, even I have had such problems recently. But you fixed it in 14 hours that’s commendable. I remember once my server’s crashed It took us almost 36 hours to get back. How much of our work had suffered because of such problems.

Same story here… I think I need a better hosting now .So-called 99.9% uptime is just a trick.
