BiggerPockets In Development. A Real Estate Widget is Born!

by Joshua Dorkin on September 5, 2007

I’m sorry that I haven’t been as “Johnny on the Spot” lately in keeping up with the blog, but we’ve been going through some busy times here at BiggerPockets lately.

Birth of a Dashboard Widget

Yesterday, we announced the launch of our newest application, the BiggerPockets Real Estate Investing Forums Dashboard Widget for Mac computers. Now, Mac users can keep up to date with all of the latest in real estate investing discussions quickly and easily, right on their desktop!

The widget has been well regarded so far, and we hope to get it into the hands of more people in an effort to spread the word about our blossoming community!

More to come . . .

We’ve made quite a few minor changes on the site over the past few weeks, including great new information, forum additions and improvements, and so on. In the weeks to come, we hope to announce yet more impressive changes and updates to our real estate portal — BiggerPockets.com — the premiere site for anyone involved in the real estate world!

Josh, it’s great that you are constantly trying to improve!

The one thing I would like to see, is when I log in and check for new posts, if there were a checkbox I could set or clear to “batch” mark read, save to a folder, watch (or kill), etc. As REI pointed out elsewhere, sometimes when I log in, I don’t have time to review and respond to all the posts that interest me, but if I log out I lose them and have to dig through ALL the topics.

Oh, also, a “Logoff” (and Home) on all pages– I usually check your blog last, and have to backtrack to main page to logoff.

Nonetheless, I much prefer your overall forum style to other popular sites, so don’t go crazy!

Thanks for the feedback, Beachbum! We are working on several improvements right now, and will certainly look at these (the ones you mention) in the next course of updates.

I’m glad you appreciate the forums and hope we can continue to keep you happy on the site!

Hey Josh-
How about a Windows Vista sidebar gadget?

I am sure the Mac guys will love this request ;)

Thanks Lucy!

Scott –
I’ve considered doing a Vista widget, but I’m hearing so many complaints about the OS that I’m inclined to stay away. We’ll see . . . maybe in the coming months we’ll reconsider.

Looks good. How many people have downloaded it? Has their been a noticeable increase in your traffic?

Marco – What are you talking about? The widget automatically takes posts from a feed and shows them. It is kept up with a small delay of a few minutes.

Phoenix – The widget has certainly helped bring interest to the site. I haven’t actually checked to see how many downloads we’ve got so far . . .
