It's amazing how much can be cut back in repair costs by doing the repairs that you are able to. You're point about working along with the contractor is well taken. I learned alot of new skills that way too. In fact, anytime that I have to contract out for a repair, for the air conditioner, sewer work or even termites, I stick to the worker like flypaper to see each step of what they do. It's like a free education (except that I'm paying for it). Very sightful article!
