Best book ever is by Robert Kiyosaki 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'. This would cure a number of problems for overspenders. He also has a game that teaches people how to get out of the rat race. I came from a spend happy family and wasn't taught much about money, so I had similar problems, but now that I have a better understanding and respect for money my bank account and assets has been growing.

Micki,

The idea is quite simple. I was just recalling a time where people took responsibilty for their own actions instead of blaming everyone but themselves. Where did we, as a society, lose that? When and why did it become acceptable to immerse yourself hopelessly in debt? How can we change that?

Yes, I have this conversation with my wiser mentors every month or so. It is crazy how far away from those values we've come and I am a little frightened of where it will lead us.

Amen brother. I read another news story this morning about how the foreclosure crisis "is hitting the immigrant community" particularly hard _ PUH-LEASE. It goes on to say how 3 in 10 houses sold to immigrants were sold to Brazilians and how these poor people had NO IDEA that the payment would go up and they were EASY PREY for all those UNSCRUPULOUS brokers - GIVE ME A BREAK already I say. Nobody is responsible for themselves anymore. You sign off on a 200 page document that you didn't read because you don't speak English and it isn't your problem - AWESOME!
One guy goes on to say how he spent $40K in renovations but didn't know his payment would ever go up....UGH I detest it all. Now they're ripping out the copper smashing counter tops and then flying back to Brazil... (this is in the news article) Whose fault is it? Well its probably mine for being a broker.
Nut up! Ding bats if you got yourself into something you can't get out of SHAME ON YOU - there is fine print with the American dream READ IT!
