In some places, it seems the very expansion of the real estate market was the primary source of jobs. In Utah, it was a major source of employment along the Wasatch front and the contracting market led to less jobs, less houses, and still fewer jobs - it is a hard thing to turn around once it gets started.

It is also true of individual cities, states and regions that job growth must precede robust housing growth. That's why if we're smart, we'll look for robust job markets first. Even take one step further and look for solid economic climates now. In this amazingly connected nation, what is the most important factor in a solid economic climate? Answer: a business-friendly government.

I think most people are still keeping a "wait and see" attitude about the economy before investing in any real estate right now. However, those with deep pockets are still snatching up bargain priced homes, and waiting until the market prices rise once more.
