Good article Peter,
It highlights the fact that by focussing on narrow niches even a small player can complete. Using long tail keywords can really benefit small businesses to get traffic to their sites and convert them into a client.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject Joe.

What I was trying to illustrate here is the power of using long tail keywords. While using long tail keywords can be extremely powerful, if one does not do proper keyword research, it will be extremely hard for them to get traffic to their site.

My example above, for illustration purposes, is an extreme one. Anyone using this technique will need to do keyword research to find out how much traffic is for that particular keyword.

Keyword research is extremely important when doing SEO and one of the fundamental steps. I didn’t go into it here because the article would be extremely long.

Number of Google searches for “How to sell my house fast.” Ahh… none. “Not Enough Data”
Number of Google searches for “How to sell my house fast in Dallas.” Mmmm… none. “Not Enough Data”

If you try to improve your Google ranking with these keyword phrases, you will be a very frustrated SEO newbie.

Also, there is another “leg” to the keyword research biped. But more on that later, if it comes up.
