Real Estate Blogging Case Study: SEO Benefits of BiggerPockets Blogs

by Joshua Dorkin on August 30, 2009

Earlier today I was browsing through some of the blogs on our BiggerPockets Blog Network and saw a post that caught my attention. It didn’t grab me as much for the content, but because the author shared with everyone the fact that the post had first page rankings on Google, soon after going live.

The post, titled I Buy Houses in Joplin Missouri, written two days ago, is now the top result for “buy houses Joplin” and the second result for “buy houses Joplin Missouri” out of 107,000 and 110,000 total results in Google’s index.

The value that comes from participating on BiggerPockets certainly extends beyond the deals made, knowledge learned, and network extended. The marketing and SEO perks are quite astounding as well! Thanks for your thoughts, Peter!

I have enjoyed coming to the BP blog from time to time over the past few months. This a great case study, and really has me interested with some questions about how to best go about contributing content while improving my SEO.

I am currently a cog in a company that is trying to improve its SEO and want to be sure that this is done properly if this is an avenue I should pursue.

To do so with a BP blog, I guess first I would I sign up for a blog, research, and post relevant information, right? Should I then include links in the blog to my company? If I do not update content often will all previous efforts be lost? Any other tips or suggestions?
Thanks.

The bet way to build your online presence, Copeland, is to get active in communities like BiggerPockets. The hard sell is not an effective technique, typically. By participating and providing quality content to others, you’ll see that people start to take interest in you and what you’re doing – in this case, the showcase website. Those members on our site who are visible and part of the “ether” are typically those who benefit most from it. Those who come, post some kind of solicitation, or relatively useless drivel see little to no benefit from being here.

I hope that’s helpful.

I’m fairly new to marketing and your advice was very helpful.

Thank you.
