We made the mistake of PPC, we used general search terms and horrendously large bills from google – dont get me wrong, it did bring people in, but at a whopping cost.

We started using more precise terms ‘village name’ property and ‘village name’ terraced houses, they only cost pennies for each click, and we cost much more traffic. ..so just backing up the earlier PPC comments – read about it first! – your wallet will thank you!

The way I look at it, you can submit a press release every week as long as you have something to PR worthy to write in it and not just sell in it.

How frequently is too frequently for the press releases? It sounds like a tool that could be easily get overdone.

Great article Peter. I have questions about #7 Social Media. I have had tremendous success writing and posting articles and comments on blogs such as BiggerPockets, LinkedIN and REIClub. However, I have had zero luck giving tips and free information on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. I would love to hear strategies on how to successfully network on those sites. Thanks again.

I’d heard of all of the ideas in this series until I saw your suggestion to do a joint venture with other investors. That sounds like a fantastic idea! Since you asked, I’d love it if you could go into more detail about that at a later point. How would an investor set something like this up?

Yes, PPC can cost you a lot of money if you don’t know what you are doing. Most people either don’t know or don’t bother TARGETING and optimizing their campaigns. Result => high Cost per click costs and lower rankings.

I added PPC in there because it is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site. However, as I pointed out in the article, you can get someone who is an EXPERT at PPC and let them do it.

I’d agree about social media and press releases: they’re free. PPC campaigns are best left to a pro–do it yourself, and you could waste a lot of money. There are plenty of SEM firms who will do the work for you and at a reasonable rate.
