Unique Gift Ideas Real Estate

Congratulations!

If you are reading this post, you probably fell for the classic trick…

Chances are, some amazing, talented, smart (and probably good looking) real estate professional shared this post on their social media as a subtle reminder that they aren’t looking for fluffy socks and awkward underwear this year for Christmas. They don’t need any more tubs of popcorn, candles, or lotion.  They are interested in something more to help their business.

Well, you’ve come to the right place to discover the best gifts for the real estate professional in your life. Whether it’s your cousin, wife, dad, Realtor, landlord, or any other real estate pro, these gifts are sure to satisfy even the toughest real estate pro in your life.

1.) Real Estate Books

Real Estate Gifts BooksEveryone loves a good book – but for real estate professionals, a good book can transform their business.

Whether a book like Rich Dad Poor Dad,  The Millionaire Real Estate Agent,  The Four Hour Workweek or others, the lessons learned from these books can help the real estate pro in your life do better in business, organize their life, and learn new skills to further their career.

For a list of the top twenty one books for real estate pros, be sure to check out BiggerPockets Presents: The Best Real Estate Books Ever.

2.) iPad

iPad GiftYes, iPads are great for playing Angry Birds on or being the awkward guy at a concert holding up the 9 inch tablet to take a picture (please, stop that) but they can also be an incredibly powerful business tool.

With over a million apps in the app store, there’s an app for pretty much anything you can think of.

Real estate professionals can use an iPad to analyze properties (using software like the BiggerPockets Analysis Tools), send emails on the road, read the best new books (see #1 above), and a lot more. Yes, the iPad is a little spendy, but you know this will be their favorite gift of the year!

3.) Cash Flow 101 – The Game

Real Estate Gifts Cashflow 101Created by the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, Cash Flow is a board game that actually transforms the way people think about money, to help them escape the “rat race” of “slave, save, die” and begin living a whole new life of wealth and financial freedom. Not only does this game teach some of the most foundational and awesome truths to any real estate entrepreneurs life… it’s also a blast to play.  Seriously, it’s fun for anyone, whether they care about real estate or not.

If you want to learn more about cash flow, don’t miss Cashflow 101: Using the Game to Define Your Investing Strategy on the BiggerPockets Blog.

4.) Annual BiggerPockets Pro Membership

BP AppBiggerPockets is the world’s premier real estate investing social network, with over 140,000 members. In addition to the free memberships, a real estate entrepreneur can gain access to numerous different tools and networking abilities by upgrading to a Pro Membership. 5.) Cambridge Limited NoteTaker Notebook

NotebookOrganization is extremely important for a real estate professional, and with much of our work being done on the road, that organization can be difficult.

That’s why a notebook like the Cambridge Limited NoteTaker Notebook is so great. This professional notebook contains a black vinyl cover with 5 X 8 Inches legal pad, a place for yellow sticky notes, and full size 50 ct. business notebook. Also included is a zippered inside mesh pocket, pen loop and business card slots so the real estate pro in your life will always stay organized and prepared.

6.) Dome 750 Mileage Log/Expense Record

Real Estate Gifts MileagePerhaps no gift on this list will provide the same direct “return on investment” as this inexpensive (under $6) gift.

Most real estate professionals can deduct a significant portion of the miles they drive from their taxes… but the fact is: most do not. Most investors, agents have good intentions of keeping track of their miles, but simple forget. However, by giving this gift to your local agent or investor, you will potentially help them save hundreds or thousands of dollars on their tax bill.

Click here to check out the Dome Mileage Log on Amazon.

7.) Cell Phone Battery Extender

Battery ExtenderAs I mentioned above, most real estate professionals spend a lot of time on the road and in the field. As a result, there is often a lot more “day” than “battery power.” A simple battery extender can be a tremendous way to help your Real Estate Pro run their business longer with less hassle .

Each cell phone will likely need a different extender, so be sure you know what kind of extender they need.

8.) Canon T3i

Canon T3i GiftEveryone knows a great photo can encourage a prospective buyer or tenant to check out a piece of property in person.  So why do so many real estate investors or agents rely on a simple camera phone to take photos?

Although it’s the most pricy item on this list, the Canon T3i can turn even the most un-tech savvy person into a professional photographer with it’s easy to use settings. (FYI – this is the camera I use to make all of my BiggerPockets Videos!)

Another great camera option, as suggested by Rich Shearrow  - is the GoPro Hero3. This almost-indestructible, high-def camera can go where few other cameras can. You might even consider sticking it on a toy helicopter to take arial shots of your property… but don’t let it get so high you forever lose the thing like my Realtor Jason Atwood did! :)

9.) Starbucks Gift Card

Starbucks Gift Card

Real estate is not about property or paperwork, it’s about people. (yes, you can Tweet That Quote!)

Networking is one of the most important jobs for a real estate professional, so why not give them the gift that will help them network with more people?! A Starbucks gift card can be the gift that keeps on giving, as the relationships formed over a Tall Non-Fat Peppermint Hot Chocolate at 170 Degrees with Whip but No Mocha Drizzle can lead to a lifetime of repeat business. (Thanks to Peggy Ulmer of MilitaryRealEstateGirl.com for this tip!)

10.) Food

Screen Shot 2013-12-13 at 8.23.40 PMWho doesn’t love food? One of the tips I loved the most from The BiggerPockets Podcast was on show 15 with Glenn and Amber Schworm where they mentioned they always send brownies to everyone involved in the closing of their deals. Such a simple gesture, but it sure goes a long way in maintaining good relationships with those you do business with.  Here’s a few great choices for easy-to-mail food, direct from Amazon.com:

Stew Leonard’s – Brownie Bucket-Half Gallon

Giant 5lb Gummy Bear  (Seriously….5 lbs… check that thing out! —> )

Sees Candies Chocolate and Variety

11.) Personalized Rosewood Pen Set with Engraved Name

Personalized Pen Gift IdeaYes, the world is becoming more digitalized… but who doesn’t love a beautiful looking professional pen with their own name engraved on it?

While a personalized pen is sure to impress clients, buyers, sellers, or spouses – they also will be one of the most used-gifts on this list. Every time that person signs their name, they’ll think of you!  (Thanks to my wife for this idea!)

Click here to check out the Personalized Pens on Amazon.com.

12.) Leads and Referrals

Handshake

Perhaps the greatest gift you can give a real estate professional is a simply lead.

  • If you are looking for a gift for a real estate agent or mortgage professional – can you refer someone who is looking to buy a home?
  • If you are looking for a gift for a real estate investor, do you know any rundown, vacant homes?
  • If you are a tenant looking for a gift for your landlord – do you have any friends looking for a place to rent?

Leads don’t cost any money at all, but I promise you: the real estate professional in your life will thank you 1000x over! (Thanks to Trisha Jillson Cornelius of Trisha-Cornelius.com for this one!)

13.) BONUS: Donation

I couldn’t pass this last one up, because I thought it was so awesome!  Dave Fauquier of CallRealtySolutions.com said this in the Raise the Bar in Real Estate Facebook group

I would like a donation in my name (or anonymous) to the local food bank.. I have plenty to eat…others do not!

What a great idea! There are a lot of people out there, especially at this time of the year, who may be hungry or going without the basic needs in life. By donating to organizations that help those who are in need, you not only help those people, you also honor your friend as well.

Conclusion

So – you now have 12 13 different gift ideas for the real estate investor in your life. You now have no excuse – it will take just seconds to buy and ship one of these gifts and make your favorite real estate professional’s day!

I had a few more… suggestions… that didn’t quite make the list, but I wanted to add those to the list as well… just in case you are feeling generous!

  • Patek Grand Complications Chronograph Mens Watch 5970R, currently on sale for just $174,999.00 with free shipping! Thanks Joe Sheehan for the idea! I’ll get right on it!
  • A large bag of money.  Cash is always nice!  (Thanks Lyn Sims!)
  • Jason Atwood would like to improve his Flag Football skills (so he can beat me) by lifting some weights. Good luck Jason… ;)
  • A Lincoln Towncar woud make a nice Realtor ride… despite the fact that they don’t make em anymore! (Thanks Eric Anderson!)
  • And finally, Jay Thomson of Zillow fame would love to see this in his office:

Great list. I wouldn’t mind some stamps for a YL mailer or even some office stuff from staples.

Thanks for the great post @Brandon just in time!

+1 on don’t be that guy taking pictures with your tablet. I was at a multifamily conference last week and a guy in front of me was video recording the whole presentation with his iPad. :(

Great list, especially the recommendation to read more. Warren Buffett and Charley Munger spend most of their days and nights reading, and it seems to be working for them.

Thanks Giovanni! And that’s so funny about the iPad conference guy. I’ve seen that guy too – and he always seems to sit right in front of me!

Yeah, what is it with ‘that’ guy? :)

Great list! My wife has a t3i but I still use my phone for my pics. Cell phone extenders are a must especially when I drive my mustang and don’t have a charger. I need to get cash flow 101.
