There are tons of great resources out there for real estate investors and I try my hardest to bring the best of the best to you all. I spent some time today exploring GovHomeUSA, a site that lists properties for sale by various agencies in the federal government, including those from HUD and the VA; the site also claims to have a database of seized, foreclosed, and distressed properties.

After searching through the listings from several states, I noticed that there were only listings on site from HUD (Housing and Urban Development), VA (Veterans Affairs), and RD (Rural Development). There were not, as the site claims, any foreclosure or pre-foreclosure listings.

Users of the site get access to general information on listings, including street name, city, beds, baths, listing price, square footage, and the agency that owns it. For full access to all information users need to sign up for a year’s membership at $24.95. The price is actually quite reasonable if you break it down - $2/month, but you can get the exact same information for free with ALL THE DETAILS, directly from government websites like HomeSales.gov.

GovHomeUSA offers a 24/7 help desk, but from what I could see, that entails filling out a form and creating a support ticket. I was unable to find a contact phone number anywhere on site, and the site’s knowledge base seems to contain no information.

While I hate to write a negative review, especially when I’m being paid to do so, I cannot recommend using this site. Spend your $2 a day to save a child somewhere who is starving and use HomeSales.gov as a free alternative to GovHomeUSA.
