BiggerPockets Real Estate Social Network: Features Tutorial
How do I Create an Account? Simple! Just go to the BiggerPockets home page and hit the JOIN TODAY BUTTON. Then fill out the registration form and wait for our automated email confirmation message to be sent to your address. The message will contain a link to activate your account.If you do not get this email, check your SPAM mail box. If the message still isn't there, perhaps you mis-typed your email. Get in touch with us and we'll help you activate your account.
Okay, I Created an Account. How Do I Create a Profile?The first time that you log onto BiggerPockets after creating an account, the site will provide you with a form allowing you to fill in your basic profile information. This includes, your occupation, real estate focus, zip, basic information, and of course, your Avatar (profile image).Filling in this basic information helps other people on the site to find and network with you. In addition, by adding an Avatar image, you can let people know who you are (photo-wise), or at least let you share a representation of yourself for all to see. When creating or editing your profile, you also have the ability to turn on or off email notifications for things like profile comments, colleague or reference requests, and private conversations. To EDIT your PROFILE further, just click on the edit profile links found at the top of the page:
 These will allow you to change any of the information on your profile, change your password, email preferences, or upload an image at any time.
How Do I Add Colleagues to My Profile? Adding colleagues is easy! Just click on the profile link of other members in the forum and you'll be brought to their profile page. There you'll see an "Add as Colleague" link below their image. Click the link and wait for them to respond, and you're set!
You can also find new colleagues with our MEET link, or by using the new SEARCH box found on the main BiggerPockets.com page or any social network page.

If you invite someone to the site and they sign up, they instantly become your Colleague.
Why Invite New People or Add Colleagues?One of the great features of the BiggerPockets Social Network is the ability to have people write you REFERENCES. In business, the guy with the most references is usually the most successful as well.Help grow your reputation by building your reference base! See a sample reference below:
Messaging BiggerPockets has transformed the concept of Private Messaging into the form of CONVERSATIONS. Members can now start a conversation with one or multiple members of the site. These conversations are private and threaded for ease of use. Now, members can conduct complicated negotiations or do business dealings in a place where all parties to the conversation can participate.
To start a conversation, you have several options:
ReferencesTo request a REFERENCE, you must visit your DASHBOARD and select the MY COLLEAGUES link. You'll see a REQUEST REFERENCE link next to your colleague's image. Click the link and if your colleague agrees to write you one, you've got yourself a reference!
Reference Controls: New Requests - Shows you those people who are interested in having you write them a referenceMy References - Shows you those references that people have written about you. If you are not happy with a reference, you can delete it. Pending Requests - Shows you those requests that you have sent, but haven't been responded to yet. Sent References - Shows you those references you have written about other members. You can edit or delete a reference you've written as well.
Search e.g. If you're looking for developers in Dallas, just type "developer Dallas" (no quotes needed) and you'll see everyone who matches your search.
 If that doesn't break it down enough, then add other keywords to narrow things down. NOTE: You'll have the ability to add any members in the results as Colleagues.
DashboardThe Dashboard is your control panel on the site. From the Dashboard, you can manage everything, including your colleagues, references, invites, NOTES, and you can also track your forum posts and any private conversations you've got. We're going to be adding a lot more functionality to the Dashboard as we add new features to the site.
User Notes
 Say, for example, that you read that someone on the forum was looking for something that you can provide . . . just go to the notes tab (in the box above About Me) and create a note. NO ONE OTHER THAN YOU CAN SEE YOUR NOTES Once you've created a note, it becomes visible in your dashboard, where you can track your thoughts and ideas about others on the site.
Photo GalleriesUsers have the ability to create photo galleries on BiggerPockets. You can create as many galleries as you like, and can upload as many photos to them as you wish. The galleries will show up on your profile, and new ones can be created in the DASHBOARD.More coming soon . . .
VCards Once someone is your colleague, you have the ability to download their VCard. Just select the "Download VCard" link, located below their avatar.For those unfamiliar, VCards are used by contact management software like Outlook to transmit personal information. The VCards allow our members to easily keep up to date with their colleague's info with a simple download. Take note: If you don't have a lot of your contact information filled out, then your colleagues will only be able to download a limited VCard for you.

Lastly, we've created an INVITE link (in the Dashboard and at the top of all social pages) that will allow you to invite your friends, colleagues, and clients to the site. Not only can members invite individuals one-by-one, but they can also import their contact lists from Gmail, Hotmail (Live.com also), or Yahoo Mail and send mass invites to all of their friends/colleagues.|
