My name is Brant Phillips and I am probably a lot like you. While pursuing a career in corporate America, I discovered that the thought of being in the corporate rat race for another 25-30 years, was depressing at best…I knew there had to be another way. Although I wasn’t sure what direction to turn, I was determined to find out….
Luckily, I just so happened to meet someone that was a full-time real estate investor, a very successful investor at that. He was nice enough to share with me some stories of his success as well as some of his general investing philosophies and beliefs. One that has always stuck with me is that you have to take control of your own destiny and finances rather than leave something as important as your financial future in the hands of someone else. He alo stressed the importance of having a financial education and lastly, he told me that over 70% of wealthy Americans have obtained their wealth through real estate. Thus, I began my pursuit of learning how to invest in real estate.
I started out like many, that is, reading books, Rolf DeRoos, “Real Estate Riches†and Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad, Poor Dad†have had a lot of impact on my investing strategies. I also joined a couple of local investing clubs. I am what many call a “Type A†personality, meaning I often take aggressive action and sometimes throw caution to the wind! Holding true to myself, in January of 2007 only a couple of months of reading the books, I made a decision to start buying ‘fixer upper houses’.
At the time, my wife and I were living in an apartment and had $O.OO in the bank. If you’ve ever heard the stories of people going from rags to riches and figuring out ways to buy real estate with No-Cash, well I am living proof. My wife and I had excellent credit scores, but since we had recently paid off all of our credit cards and student loans we had NO cash to put down on a home. However, I was able to but 10 rental properties that year alone and since that time, I have acquired over 30 rental properties in my portfolio and routinely flip houses for fast cash. Since doing my first deal, I have gone on to rehab over 200+ homes in conjunction with my company RentReadyContractors.com. I am even being considered to star in one of those “Flipping Houses†shows if you can believe that!
Purchased my first investment property in January of 2007 with no experience/money...Actually used a credit card as the down payment (not something I recommend to everyone (ha!)...Went on to buy 10 more houses that year...
I was also able to buy 10 more the next year and 10+ the next year and leave my job!
Since then, I've turned my focus to flipping houses....This has really become my real estate/business 'passion' if you will and something I really enjoy.
Since I started in 2007, I've rehabbed hundreds of homes for myself and customers through a company I created called www.RentReadyContractors.com
I've also gone exclusively to using private money to fund all of my deals, pretty cool...
I'm mostly focused now on helping others to achieve what I've done.
I still actively flip houses, usually keeping 1-3 projects on going and am also looking to own my rental portfolio 'free and clear' in the near future.
Trying to get the word out on some sites I believe can really help fellow real estate investors:
