I'm an IT guy who does real estate investment part time. By IT I mean I design and develop storage subsystems. Its a combination of hardware and software, though lately I focus more on the product definition (what should it do) rather than how to actually build the products.
I started looking seriously at real estate investing in late 2006, and looked at a number of deals. Lots of reading, going to our local REIA, looking at properties. I started doing hard money loans in 2007, and then bought my first property in 2008. I'm continuing to acquire properties in the Denver area.

Enough passive income from real estate that I don't have to worry about a paycheck. So, I can work on what's interesting instead of what pays the bills.
