What is astounding is how quickly sites are falling off the list!

Since its initial publication, the list has been trimmed down to twenty (20) blogs. We’ve removed sites from the list for several reasons:

  • The blog was completely dead (9 blogs – 26%)
  • The blog was rarely updated (5 blogs – 14%)
  • The blog’s content was no longer what we’d deem amongst the tops. (1 blog – 3%)

The current list still contains many of the top real estate blogs, but many have changed focus, become overly corporate (focused only on that company), or just gone down in quality.

What does that tell you?
I think it says that we’re still an immature industry, and as time goes on, we’ll see which sites have the ability to sustain both quality content, purpose, and posting frequency. Blogging is not easy, and maintaining a top site is even tougher.

What do you think?

Looking Ahead to the Top Real Estate Blogs of the Future

We’re going to rebuild a new top real estate blogs list soon. Many of these sites will come from the current list (certainly not all of the 20 remaining, though), but I think we’ll be seeing a great new crop to join them.

Help Us By Suggesting Top Real Estate Blogs for our New List
Here are some criteria:

  • They are updated with regular frequency (at least a few posts/week).
  • Their content is completely unique, timely, and relevant
  • They focus on real estate, and real estate related industries.
  • The site is not your own. If your blog is good, others will share it. If you can’t help yourself, you’ll just reveal your selfish nature. Help others in the community by giving them some props!

We hope to announce the new list soon!

Isn’t it funny how something can be considered so popular yet a year later no longer exist. The majority of blogs seem short lived – which is quite sad.

Great suggestions so far, everyone! I’m pretty surprised that none of the blogs I’ve got in mind have been suggested yet, though.

Information is powerful… lack of information is probably going to cost someone a lot of money. Having information like this and the blogs which you are showcasing here is so valuable ins such an important segment of our economy… way to go. I applaude your efforts.

Eric – You sure you don’t want your post removed? Did you read the entire article including the criteria we were searching? The whole point was to share the love and nominate anyone but yourself.

Kudos. This is a great list of real estate oriented blogs. I found this list to be a treasure trove of valuable links. Nice job!
Replied over 10 years ago is a real estate blog from a realtor in Spring, TX. She just won the “Best Real Estate Blog in Texas” award from the Mays Business School Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. It is updated 6+ times a week. She would be a great addition to your list.

I don’t know if it’s on your list, but Real Estate Tomato is pretty good. At least, it used to be. I love the look and feel of it with their tomato theme, but I think they’ve shifted to more supporting blog services for real estate agents, and I’m not sure it always used to be like that, but I could be wrong, maybe I just didn’t notice before. I also like the content of BloodHound Blog a lot. Bigger Pockets by far is the king, and I think that research on backlinks and traffic will back that up. Short Sales Riches by Chris McLaughlin gets a little repetitive in terms of mentioning themselves but they post every few days like a machine and the commentary is always broad and insightful.

Thank you for your efforts. This is an extremely useful post / list for me as a director of a real estate company in Croatia. Unfortunately, not many good real estate blogs in Croatia. Thanks

Another vote for Bloodhound Blog, Google at least loves them. 🙂 I think so many Blogs fail, because the owners give up on them before they can produce results. Most real estate blogs are started by agents looking to get traffic to their site, and when that doesn’t magically happen they give up after a few months. It is hard to continually provide content that nobody reads…

Thanks for the mention Josh, the Bigger Pockets social network that you’ve built is a great tool and I really respect all the hard work that you do to make it successful. One blog I check regularly is The Big Picture by Barry Ritholtz. It’s not specifically a real estate blog but it covers a lot of the big issues around housing and since Congress is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wall St. banksters I think it’s important to follow what goes on there, especially from someone who has a critical view of the insiders’ manipulations.

Thanks, Giovanni. You’re doing great stuff with your site, so you definitely deserve to be included here. I’m also a fan of Barry’s blog, but I don’t think it directly fits this list. If you’re ever interested in possibly joining us as a contributor, please let me know.
