Goals Without Limits: How to Make Big Dreams for 2015 into Achievable Plans

When you’re in bed dreaming, I am out achieving!” – Engelo Rumora

Hello again from beautiful Toledo, Ohio. Just kidding — this time of year, there is not really anything very beautiful about Northwest Ohio in my opinion. It has been freezing cold and snowing, then raining with 60 mph winds, sunny and 63 degrees, then back to 23 degrees, all in one week! Unfortunately for me, a guy who grew up in the warmth of Australia, this is kind of torture (I am still trying to wrap my head around the whole Fahrenheit-Celsius conversion). I can’t wait to head South to the Bahamas in mid-January.

That being said, the year is quickly winding down. The holidays have arrived in full force, and our business only has a few weeks left to finish a handful of projects and get them off the books. This is also the time of year when I revisit our plan — the goals we set in place for our current year — and evaluate what our focus needs to be moving forward.

This is not the same as a New Year’s resolution, like joining the gym in January and expecting to lose 50 pounds, then quitting in February because it’s all just too hard. That never works. I don’t know anyone who sticks to those goals. I am referring to real, hard and in-your-face commitments that drive the business and your life forward. Did I get your attention?

Perseverance & the Path to Success

Yesterday, we posted a Yellow Ladder Tip that discussed my philosophy on what it takes to be successful in any venture. Some may not agree, but I know that the formula works. It is also within this formula that my goals and plans for the future have their foundation. I know that what I do is much bigger than myself. What I do is for our entire team and my family; it is hard, but the reward of more time and a lifestyle that affords me the opportunity to truly be free is totally worth it.

Please trust me when I say that accomplishing your dreams is not an easy task. I was eating peanut butter off a teaspoon and living on coffee for 6 months while pursuing my goals. I sold my car to kickstart the business and purchase a laptop that had all of its keys (previous laptop had letters missing), which allowed me to commit to building our brand through social media and by developing our website.

Fast forward 6 months and many 100+ hour weeks later, and we have sold over 1 million dollars’ worth of property. We have a company car. Our team — yes, we grew — has an office building painted in our company colors. We also went from sleeping on the floor on an air mattress in a tiny hole of an apartment to owning a $100k home outright and finally sleeping on a bed!

Dreaming Without Limits

Why do I tell you this, you may ask? I tell you this because dreams and goals and hopes and wishes matter in our lives. We live in a world where we are taught that we can be and do anything we want, but with limits. I am here to tell you that the only limit to what you accomplish is YOU! How bad do you want what you dream of? How bad do you feel the need to spend more time with your family because you see it passing all too quickly? The key is in the commitment that you place on achieving those goals.

I write lists daily. I post my goals and our plans all over the office for everyone to see. We hold weekly company meetings that focus on the day to day, but also reach back to those plans. This keeps us on track. When I set my goal in place and begin acting on it, I want it to haunt me until it has been achieved.

The problem is most people never get past the thought and word part. They never really do anything about what they want or desire, but instead wait for it to come their way. Waiting never gets you anywhere. Doing takes you to your goal!

This is not meant to be down putting, but rather uplifting because anyone can do what I did. I mean, I quit school at age 14. I have trouble getting anything done with any sort of background noise and had a million thoughts popping into my head every second.

All you have to do is commit and take action everyday. Focus on the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves. Start with the big picture, and work your way back. Create big goals that will outline the entire year. Then, break them down by month to enable you to get closer to that big picture. Work your way down to daily goals or even hourly goals, like sending an email or making a phone call. In the end, all of these small tasks relate to the accomplishment of your dream.

You will not fail! (And so what if you do? You just learned something new. Try again.)

There is no limit to what you can DO; the limit is YOU.” – Engelo Rumora

What have you accomplished in the past year that you never could’ve fathomed achieving? What big dreams are you chasing in 2015?

I hadn’t been reading BP as much lately, but have caught up and noticed you’re very involved with some excellent insights, Engelo. I appreciate the valuable contributions you’re making here and thank you for lighting a new fire under me. I need to work smarter and focus more on the minutia going into 2015. Let’s do it big.

      Hi Ben,

      Thanks for your comment.

I am glad that you like our contributions. I have some pretty cool people working with me that put all of my thoughts on paper really well.

Its all in the mind and that’s what we normally post about. I am as raw as they get but am willing to put my head through a wall if its necessary to succeed.

Keep the fire burning and the dream alive 😉

Thanks and have a great day.

      Hi Danielle,

      Thanks for your comment.

      I personally have 4 lists.

URGENT is on my whiteboard above my head. This is the do or die list that gets updated daily.

PERTINENT is on the whiteboard to my right. This is a list is for “Bigger Picture” goals. Its more longer term as in weekly and monthly

CALENDER is on my MacBook. This is the daily grind and scheduled meetings/phone calls for the day to day stuff.

NOTEPAD is next to my laptop on the desk staring at me all day. Normally have 20-30 things at any given moment.

Sorry, I went a bit off topic 🙂

To answer your question. Yes, there are not enough hours in a day to complete the “To-Do” list. But personally I like it that way. I always keep adding more and more. On an average day I might execute on 5-7 things on my NOTEPAD. The next day, I will ad another 5-7 lol

Its just a never ending cycle that I love.

I will keep doing this until my end goal has been reached.

      I hope my answer helps.

Thanks and have a great day.

Thank you for the inspiring words.
What we are all chasing in the end is more time, isn’t it? Time for our family, more time to build our brand.
This post is a reminder to all to seize the day, maximize each opportunity, and within each setback is a lesson to learned

    Hi Tyrone,

    Thanks for your comment.

We sure are chasing more time. Check out this quote below:

3 Things you cannot Recover in life:

    The WORD after it’s said
    The MOMENT after its missed
    The TIME after its gone……?

Thanks and have a great day.
