These are the first four steps a new investor should do when they\u2019re getting into real estate, based on my personal experience.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Get Started in Real Estate Investing<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2-6kCTMDvnc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>Network with experienced investors.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The No. 1 thing I would tell anybody is to go network with other investors. Whether you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/forums\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">do it on BiggerPockets<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/forums\/521-events-and-happenings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attend local meetups<\/a>, whatever\u2014go do this.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/blog\/2014-08-16-tips-beginner-real-estate-investors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">12 Simple Tips For Beginner Real Estate Investors<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3>Find a mentor.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The second thing is definitely <a href=\"\/renewsblog\/2015\/06\/20\/ultimate-guide-finding-incredible-mentors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">find some sort of mentor<\/a>, somebody who might be able to help you out in some way. If you don&#8217;t know how to do something yourself, there are plenty of people who do. And just because one of them turns you down doesn&#8217;t mean that other ones will. So keep fighting until you find one.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3>Offer something in return.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Third, when you\u2019re going to find that mentor, don\u2019t be \u201cthat guy\u201d or \u201cthat girl,\u201d who\u2019s super annoying and asking for so much but not giving any help in return.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/blog\/2016-02-27-3-common-myths-beginner-real-estate-investors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The 3 Most Common Real Estate Myths Beginning Investors Believe<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3>Know your strategy.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The No. 4 thing is strategy. Know what you want to do in real estate investing. If you do not know what you want to do, then go do little tests and figure stuff out until you find what you&#8217;re attracted to.<\/p>\n<p>My success did not start until I actually focused on one thing. There are so many areas of real estate. People say, \u201cI\u2019m going to <a href=\"\/renewsblog\/2014\/01\/07\/flipping-houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flip a house<\/a>, I\u2019m going to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/guides\/brrrr-method\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BRRRR<\/a>, I\u2019m going to <a href=\"\/renewsblog\/2013\/01\/04\/how-to-rent-your-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buy rentals<\/a>, I\u2019m going to <a href=\"\/renewsblog\/2013\/04\/09\/how-to-buy-a-small-multifamily-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buy multifamily<\/a>, and I\u2019m going to do a syndicate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They start because it all sounds great; they\u2019ll make lots of money. But they suck at all of them. They never really take off.<\/p>\n<p>So, in 2014, when I decided I was just going to flip houses, I had my largest financial success. I was able to get better margins, better focus. Now I can add other things to it since I have a strategy in place and a focus.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it!
