Although, if recent modifications to disaster relief are anything to go by, these safeguards<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/low-income-homeowners-hit-by-disasters-may-get-less-help-from-the-government-as-trump-administration-nixes-rules-on-fairness-community-input-and-resilience-257439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> could change<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> going forward.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Third, many homeowners are sitting on a significant amount of home equity, which could offer an additional buffer against mortgage payment challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Roughly 48 million mortgage holders had tappable equity, with the average homeowner holding $213,000 in accessible value,&#8221; entering the third quarter of 2025, the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/mortgagetech.ice.com\/resources\/data-reports\/august-2025-mortgage-monitor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">August Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Mortgage Monitor<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> report noted.
