How to get started in Real Estate? Real Talk-Get a coach

This is my first blog and hopefully not my last. If you subscribe to me, you will always get real talk and real takes on things that will help you gather your bearings as you begin your journey in real estate.

First real thing I am about to say to all people reading, the jump into real estate is scary. I mean like poop your pants I can't believe I am leveraging this amount of money scary.

This last thing I wrote wasn't intended to scare you back into your full-time job that you hate or whatever reason it is you are doing to get into real estate. It's to help you with seeing that all the glitz and glamour aren't always a part of the plan.

This blog is intended to set expectations and to tell you to do your research first before you jump. You will ultimately need to jump but start with things that don't cost money; just time. Hook up with a strong mentor(s). If you have a LinkedIn connection list of over 500, you will more than likely know someone who knows someone in the industry (if you haven't met them already). Facebook is a big help, BiggerPockets if you are reading this, Twitter and your local REIA organizations. This type of free research will help build an idea of what you want to do.

If you connect with a mentor/coach/guru that you are comfortable with, ask them to guide you. I would highly recommend paying them a fee to do this. If someone told me that I would make $200,000 if I paid someone $2,000 (or any amount of money that will get you to your goals), wouldn't you do that? Before you give someone this money, make sure they aren't a criminal. Since you did research and talked to other people, your probably in good hands. This still doesn't stop people from being shady. I am grateful for the two I have here in Cleveland. They are and continue to be great influences for me and guides.

While things may seem scary (and they are nerve-racking), your journey will be a long one if you find the right guide. Next step for you as a newbie, go get it! Use the nerves to your advantage and set smart goals that will lead to your new wealth.
