A “Book Review” of Set For Life

Okay, I lied. This is not really a book review. But it is a strong recommendation of the book and my reasons why.

Does that title Set For Life sound familiar? It should, and if it doesn’t then you should go to the Bigger Pockets Book Store and get your copy right now! www.biggerpockets.co m/setforlife

A Difference We Can Use

Bigger Pockets’ own Scott Trench authored this watershed book which may well become a “classic” in short order. All of us have heard the benefits of being frugal and of taking charge of our financial lives and how doing so can change your life and create a future we all desire.

But, usually, sources of this type of wisdom are tired old books and authors who, frankly are not necessarily as relevant as they once were, in their day. Yes, many of the concepts and precepts are evergreen, but their applicability and currency can make it difficult for many today, to avail themselves.

Old Ideas - Made New

This is the most impressive aspect of Scott’s book, that he is so fresh! Not only is he accomplished in his own right as both an executive and real estate investor, but he is also a philosopher. Yes, I said it. Scott is both a young businessman AND a philosopher! It happens occasionally.

And it is in this philosophy that the true value and inevitably widespread impact of Scott’s book lies. He is bridging generations here. Something not easily accomplished, ever, especially in such conservative subject areas as personal finance and lifestyle engineering. I have children older than Scott, and yet he is able to “speak to me,” in a way that not only resonates but also informs.

My Experience Makes the Case for the Book

I have been fortunate to have learned and lived many of the lessons Scott is sharing, and my takeaway here is, I wish I had a book like this when I was Scott’s age. My journey would have been a lot less bumpy, and my outcomes far greater.

I have tried to pass the lessons and principles of how to live a good life and create financial success and even financial freedom, on to my children. They got it. And unlike my kids, I did not have the same benefit as a young person, only because my father was a career U.S. Army officer, not a businessman or entrepreneur.

Scott is providing a tool, Set For Life, that fills that hole, and as I said, I wish I had the book 35 years ago. Well, today, nobody will have to suffer that situation or miss that opportunity. All they have to do is avail themselves of Set For Life, and learn its lessons, apply them and pass them on to their own children.

This Could Become a Classic

Not to overstate the case here, but I expect Scott’s book may someday rival his predecessor’s 80-year-old classic, a little-known work titled Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. A little over 100 Million copies sold. Ever heard of that one?

If you happen to read this post, Scott, don’t get a big head😊. But you should be proud. And you will be rewarded for your valuable contribution and effort of bringing this book and message to a generation or two, many of who have lost their sense of perspective and direction when it comes to money and life.

Disclaimer and Disclosure

I have no relationship with either Scott or this  book and will not make any money from its sales or otherwise. I have never met, spoken with or even had any email comms with Scott. So chill out. I just like the book and feel everyone can benefit from reading it.

  1. Wow! Thank you so much for this fantastic "review" :). I really appreciate it. I'm incredibly grateful that you have such a high opinion of the book and were willing to share those thoughts so publicly. I hope that one day soon our paths can cross so that I can buy you a beer and learn from some of those experiences you've had that confirmed the lessons of Set for Life!

    1. You earned the praise Scott. Have BP share my Blog post so the word can get out. I don't think anyone sees this since I am a relative unknown in BP.   Will take you up on the beer, for sure!
