2008-10-02 No heat until when!!!

I made some phone calls this morning and left a message for the natural gas company at 8:00am.  I then called again at 11:30am and it said his voice mail box was full.  I thought oh great, here we go.

I contacted one of my tenants this morning (the one on SSI) to let them know that I am unable to turn the heat on yet.  I would rather call my tenants to let them know there isn't going to be any heat for a couple of days than have them call me.

I met the HVAC guys around lunch time with my tools in hand.  Went in and said what can I do.  So I disconnected the boiler that wasn't disconnected yet, wired the electrical in on the one new boiler and started running the condensate drain.  I'm trying to salvage what I can from the old systems.  The expansion tank was a beast to get off and had to be coaxed with a torch and a pipe on the end of my wrench.

I walked outside and saw another tenant and told her that the heat would not be functioning for about a week yet, she said that was fine and she would go to her mothers if it got too cold.

My phone rings.  It's the gas guy.  He tells me that there is a backlog and to realistically not expect to get gas service until the end of October.  I told him that that was unacceptable.  I told him that I have six tenants and none of them have heat.  He said there's no heat?  I told him that was correct and he said he would mark the job as no heat.  I'm hoping this gets my job bumped to the emergency list.  It should considering I first called him to get my meter installed a month ago.  He told me that they are overwhelmed with people switching from oil to NG.

I'm going to post a notice tomorrow morning in the apartment to let the other tenants know that there is no heat and I won't be able to turn it on until sometime next week.

I'm going to go back in tomorrow to help them with some more stuff.
