Ohio's 20th largest city offers so much to home buyers and investors!

Kettering is a city in Greene and Montgomery Counties in Ohio, and it's the largest suburb in the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is named for its most outstanding citizen, the famous philanthropist and inventor of the automobile self-starter, Charles F. Kettering, who resided here in his home, Ridgeleigh Terrace, from 1914 until his death in 1958. The earliest settler in what is now Kettering was farmer John Patterson, who built the area's first log cabin in 1798. In 1841, an expanding population birthed Van Buren Township, a name that would remain for more than 100 years. In November of 1952, voters of Van Buren Township approved the incorporation of the Village of Kettering, and in 1955 Kettering was proclaimed a city by the Secretary of the State of Ohio.

While Kettering is a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, the city hosts major employers in its own right. The city's five largest employers are Kettering Medical Center; GE Money; Limited Brands (dba Victoria's Secret Direct); and WilmerHale (the 22nd largest law firm in the United States). The Berry Company, a subsidiary of Local Insight Media, is one of the largest publishers of Yellow Pages directories and maintains its division headquarters in Kettering. Nearby Wright Patterson Air Force Base is also a major employer of Kettering's residents.

One of Kettering’s best attributers is its 20 parks totaling 284 acres varying from the Fraze Pavilion, a major outdoor entertainment venue that also hosts the summer concerts of the Dayton Philharmonic to Skate Plaza, a 40,000-square-foot skateboard park collaboration between the City of Kettering and Rob Dyrdek, a professional skateboarder who grew up in Kettering, that opened in 2005. If you’re looking for a more idyllic setting, Delco Park offers a running path with fitness stations, a fishing lake, several picnic areas, a playground, and also is home to a BMX track, volleyball and basketball courts, and baseball/softball diamonds. Delco is also the home of Kettering animal shelter The Society for the Improvement of Conditions of Stray Animals (SICSA)’s annual Walk for Strays, which is a community-centric all-day affair for both humans and pets alike and the city’s Independence Day fireworks each year.
