Never a dull moment Landlording

How's this for a new one?

Up here, the leasing statutes have been changed to accomodate tenants with service animals.

Today, I got a letter from a MD stating her patient needed a rabbit. That's a first!

  1. I allow pets personnally. I avoid carpet and think it makes it easier to get higher rent/larger tenant pool. But I know a guy who's phone always seems to loose signal after a prospective tenant brings up their 'odd' service animals.....it's strange....really strange.

  2. Those are not m&m's on the floor....

  3. Rabbits are the new service animal for the deaf , everybody knows that ................

  4. I never thought about the certification requirement. It's definitely worth a try. I will run it by my attorney to ensure I'm not violating the fair housing law. Splendid idea!

  5. Also curious about what the rabbit was for. I also assume that there is a process by which the animal is certified as a legit service animal (like Roy described). I'd guess that you need more then your doctor saying that you need a bunny for general happiness and well being to be forced to allow that kind of animal.

  6. Here we must accept service animals as well, but we can require the animal be certified: i.e. dogs will have temperament screening and obedience training and be certified {not yet licensed in our area} as a service/companion animal. I've never heard of training/certification for rabbits, which is fortunate as they can be highly destructive.

  7. That takes the cake, Curious, what service is the rabbit performing?
