A Playa del Carmen Home – Gated Community or Downtown?

When choosing your Playa del Carmen home, one of the important choices will be whether to choose one in the downtown area, walking distance to just about everything and close to Fifth Avenue – the main tourist street running along the beach – or just out of town in an upscale gated community. The following are some of the advantages of each.


Living downtown allows easy walking access to many amenities. In addition to the beachfront, and Fifth Avenue, there is also a Walmart and 2 similar large grocery stores, little bakeries, cafes, and services ranging from high-quality optometrists and dentists to bilingual schools for children. There are plenty of little parks, and Fifth Avenue is a pedestrian only street, making it relaxing and safe for everyone. There are also American fast-food chains like McDonald's or KFC.


Many of the outlying gated communities are also on the beachfront. Some of them include golf courses, and attractions like "swim with the dolphins." Since they are gated, safety is a really high priority, and most are full of elegant homes.


One gated community combines the best of both; Playacar is located right next to downtown, with the north entrance only 2 blocks away from the beginning of Fifth Avenue, the beach and the rest of downtown lying just beyond. Playa del Carmen homes located near the north entrance enjoy both the quiet and safety of the gated communities, as well as the convenience of being to walk to all the attractions downtown. Within Playacar, there is a golf course, a wild bird sanctuary, and a Mayan ruins site. Tree-lined roads, a bike trail and beautiful green areas make living in Playacar relaxing.
