Off Topic - my un-day in court

I had the inestimable pleasure yesterday of being a witness for the prosecution at a sentencing hearing. This issue has consumed time that would have been more profitable working on the duplexes but hey, a subpoena is a subpoena, right? I did take advantage of the location and file an eviction notice on a tenant that has pretty well pushed my last button.

So, on this 100 degree day, my plumber went to the duplex without me and started tearing apart and re-plumbing a goofy shower installation.  With no air conditioning.  Theoretically there should have been AC but once we had the power turned on, we discovered that not one of the window units worked.  They are scheduled for replacement so it's not a big cost issue but I did feel badly for the plumber in this heat.

Anyway, back to the court room.  Got all dressed up in a suit, heels, stockings, the whole nine yards.  My contractors wouldn't have recognized me.  Meet with the district attorney so she can make sure I'm not going to screw up her perfectly good case.  Go to the courtroom. Wait through some sad, tired, same ol', same ol' cases "Gee judge, I didn't MEAN to assault the police officer."  Much discussion about whether if you try to punch the officer while you have one handcuff on, is the free handcuff flying through the air a deadly weapon? As it turns out - 'yes.' Our case is finally called.  There is a clerical error leading to a missing report somewhere and a the whole durn thing is rescheduled for August.

Today - back to jeans and paint stained t-shirts.  There is remodeling to be done!

  1. I once had to go to a job site after my "regular" job and I was in a dress with my hair down. Usually I'm wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and have my hair back in a ponytail. The contractor paused and looked and me and said, "Hey, you look nice today!" I wasn't sure how to respond to that.
