Im constantly hearing & reading how successful real estate investors love to take newbies under their wing. Where are you? I posted a blog a few weeks ago and didn't get one response!!! I'm in the Boston area.

 1. Thank you for your feedback Karen & Ned! I will be spending more time on here. There is a ton of info and resources that I am definitely going to take advantage of. This is very exciting!!

 2. Lets try again http://www.biggerpockets.com/blogs/3225/blog_posts/26426-mentor

 3. "Im constantly hearing & reading how successful real estate investors love to take newbies under their wing. " I have been in the business 10 years and I can't remember hearing that. I can remember hearing that "No one is going to help you become their competitor" Now I actually believe #1 is almost common as #2, but you will run into both attitudes. You've already gotten some great advice here. You might also check out my blog post How to Find a Mentor Good luck - Ned

 4. Melissa, there are untold numbers of people that jump on BP and want to find a mentor, a lender, etc., and get disappointed when someone doesn't immediately respond. You have no idea how many times people put in time, trying to mentor people, or having mentored people. It's a big commitment to do such a thing. The question is, aside from posting on a forum, what real work have YOU done to move your investing career forward? What exactly is it that you hope to accomplish with a mentor? If you don't find a mentor, what can you do to learn market, pick up the skills that you lack? Rather than a mentor, maybe you can find a position working in a real estate office, title company, construction company, etc. Take a real estate principles class, and learn the process of real estate, etc. To be successful in the real estate business takes commitment, being aggressive in pursuing properties, asking questions of people that have experience, etc. You can learn your local market and pricing, go to Open Houses, etc. Finally, one of THE BEST things you can do is discipline yourself to come on to BP, and learn. Set up a system, with different topics and each day research a different one, take notes, etc. There are some great minds on here, with more experience than you will ever find anywhere else, and in every niche of the market. If you apply yourself, you won't need a mentor! Good luck.

 5. Thanks so much for the response. I am totally new to this and figured that if I didn't get a response than I was in the wrong place! I understand that an investor wouldn't simply "take me under their wing". I am interested in working for them in turn for gaining some experience. Thanks again!

 6. Melissa - People don't just take you under their wings because you want it to happen. Check out this article, as I think it is relevant to what you're doing: Great, Good, and Ugly Mentor Requests in Real Estate Investing Check it out and the comments below it. I also encourage you to do a search on the site for "mentors" as there are plenty of other helpful articles on the topic. Finally, do note that blogs are more for discussions, where our forums are better for asking questions. Good luck!
