Real Estate Gurus... to follow or not to follow...That is the Question

People are always hearing different things about real estate, such as how you can make money on buying property at a discount, fixing it up then reselling it for a profit. As we all know, television shows make it look so easy! Add to this the commercials that have the big Gurus selling their educational information. Some people might think that the Gurus know what they are doing and pay for that information. In some instances, the Gurus give out some free books or other information to help sell their educational materials. Admittedly so, some good free information is available. I have read some books, bought some of the courses and have learned a lot. This is one way to learn about real estate but it can cost a lot of money. Some Gurus do not tell you the cost until you are hooked on their product and have you believing it is the BEST way to learn about Real Estate. There are other ways to learn about real estate that is more budget friendly.

I have gone over all the information that I paid for and found that I did not get enough education on how to find leads or how to get noticed on social media and many other important topics on marketing your business. I have found that the BEST way to learn about real estate is on the internet. The free sites have all the same information from the Gurus on television, PLUS how to run a business! We have all said, “The BEST things in life are FREE,” and this holds true in learning about real estate! One of the best FREE sites I have found is called Bigger Pockets. There is a multitude of information and advice on how to get started into real estate, plus networking with others. Bigger Pockets has helped make it clear to me that if you want to be a real estate investor, try the free information first!!! Don't let some Guru trick you into believing that in order to make a living, you must follow their protocol. What they do not tell you after you have paid for their information is how to find the RIGHT connections on your own! They want you to go to their websites and pay to network with their elite group of investors, who most of the time, are not any more knowledgeable than you. Because of the expensive material they sell, gives them the impression of more knowledge. They sell this material to people that want to be successful with their lives. Unfortunately what's not discussed is the time, energy and money, it takes to succeed.

You don’t have to take my word for it, but before you spend any money do some research. Go to free sites, such asBigger Pockets and find out for yourselves. Be careful of the Guru's sites. Most often you will find they just want your money and for people to follow them. As we all know, building your own business costs a lot of money to start. The cost factor is one VERY important piece of information that some of the Guru sites conveniently forget. I have had my ups and downs with websites and Gurus and I have had done the same as others and have paid for information. I hope this article has made you stop and think about the choices you will be faced. It is up to us to make the right choice for ourselves!

  1. Thank you, well said. I am a curious and motivated "wannabe" REI.  What I'm finding, and quantifying is that information is generally free and not hidden. people truly want to help. However, work is still work.

So.... at the core of what "they" sell is the known factor,  your success will be dictated by the level of effort you invest. Your desire and diligence has value, as does education.  but you dont have to pay private university prices at for community college classes

    1. So true! I just wanted people to know that there is Free information out there and to do your homework, before buying. Thanks for your comment.
