WILL 2015 MASTERS BRING A THIRD GREEN JACKET FOR BUBBA?

What a year this has been in terms of golf. This year witnessed history in the making as we saw Bubba Watson clinch his second Masters win in 3 years. Yet another title after his first in 2012. Augusta National Golf Clubsaw Bubba rising to the top over Jonas Bilxt as well as Jordan Spieth in a closely contested matchup. Adam Scott, last year’s winner had a howler of a tournament with a lowly 14th position. The Augusta  also witnessed the withdrawal of Tiger Woods, who barely managed to remain number in the overall rankings.

The 2015 Masters is expected to be a closely fought contest with ‘Bubba Golf” a firm favorite. He is a very interesting character indeed, both on and off the field. In 2014 Masters he showed an amazing range of his game that was previously missing for a while. He shot a final round of 69 to take the game away from Jordan Spieth completely. This has cemented him firmly in the record books, comparable to the very best including Jack Niclaus, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson the only other players to have won the championship in such a short span of time.

What stood out from that game was his humility and his attachment to his small town roots roots. He was pretty emotional post game acknowledging that a guy from a small sleepy town winning the championship is something he could have never imagined in his wildest dreams. Well, he did win alright, remarkably turning the game around after a sedate start. At one point, he was lagging with a two shot deficit, which he dramatically overcame with a stunning lead of two. His opponent Spieth was all praise raving about his firm control throughout the matchup and ability to take bold decisions in critical points of the match.

This year’s Masters win was much more comfortable compared to the thrilling sudden death situation against Louis Osthuizen in 2012. That day he literally pulled a rabbit out of the hat winning on the 18th hole. This time around, however the margin of victory was bigger and ore dominant. In pursuit of history, Watson had denied Spieth with a history of his own. He was poised to be the youngest  winner since Tom Creavy way back in 1931. Watson has established himself as one of the top contenders for 2015 Masters which will start on April the 9th and end on April the 12th. He has an impressive tally now with multiple major championships and only the 17th golfer to win more than a single Masters.
