Achieving Goals Through Blogging in 2015

With the turn of a new year, I'm getting started on a sub-goal underneath my ultimate goal.

Ultimate Goal

Financial independence through buy and hold real estate.

Sub-goal

Become a better writer by starting a blog.

My sub-goal is to become a better writer and to consistently put critical thought to the page. I hope to use blogging as a vehicle to becoming a better writer and ultimately a better professional. Here are the top reasons why I (and you should too) set a goal to start a blog in 2015.

Critical Thinking

Writing doesn't allow you be unsure with your thoughts and feelings. Writing forces you to thoroughly think about the decisions that you make and provide a better understanding to the question - why? I need to become a better investor to achieve my ultimate goal and critical thinking is a vital skill for this purpose. Critical thinking is necessary not only for the technical components of real estate, but also for the more hypothetical questions. What do I want to be doing 10 years from now? Which types of property are best suited to get me there?

Credibility

We've all heard it before, real estate is a people business. Writing and blogging can help provide the credibility that you need to work with other brokers, lenders, investors, contractors, attorneys, and all other personnel that work in the industry. A blogging platform will allow you to be known by others before you physically meet them. This can be very useful when connecting with private lenders too. If your blogging is clear and effective, potential private lenders can research you behind the scenes and become more comfortable of striking up a deal. Make sure to show the numbers and photos of all your past projects!

Stress Relief

The times when I feel the most stressed are when I have no control and when I become severely disorganized in my thoughts. Writing can help you organize your priorities and begin to focus on what is most important. Through this process you can take the emotion from your head and place it in logical order on the page.

Communication Skills

Those who can communicate effectively are the most likely to succeed. Effective communication spawns a near limitless amount of opportunity and significantly impacts your ability to be productive. This is especially true when giving instruction to others. When you clearly communicate a goal, the steps that needed to be taken, and the tools required - those you are depending on are much more likely to complete the goal effectively. As mentioned before, real estate is a people business and the better you can intercommunicate the more likely you will achieve your goals!

These four skills are critical to any real estate investor and are critical to achieving my ultimate goal. I hope to use blogging to develop professionally and to achieve success. Happy New Year!
